Hi guys. Not trying to be narcissistic. But, I find that, as my date draws closer, I have an avalanche of qns in my head. I don't want to flood the forum with my threads, the stupid ones and the marginally intelligent ones. Now, THAT would be narcissistic. So, I'll just write my doubt/qn here. And, I request any and all of you to kindly lead me through this maze called CS.

u can get patients whom u diagnose as pregnant or even first trimester...but genuinely visibly gravid patients? ...i havent heard of that

usmle site also said that if they want to test if we can perform genital/rectal exams, they can have mannequins for us to test it..
now, can someone list what all has to be done in rectal and genital exams?
(did not want to create another thread for what may seem like stupid q's , but i really have many, including what paheli asked above)

I didn't ask about condom to this type of relationship. But I did ask how many partners during the last year to everybody (maybe they've been monogamous for the last 3 weeks only... ).
I didn't have a mannequin and never heard of it...  But it's pretty much as always: inspection, palpation, range of motion... Ooops! Just kidding! I think that won't be there. They would mention it if there was anything like that, during orientation, I think.

I did ask all sexually active people mode of contraception used, so covered condoms in that...and me too never heard of mannequins...

My current lab coat is ~ knee length, and short sleeves. Will it work? It's quite presentable. Or should I get myself a new one with long sleeves. Thanks.

i dont think they would mark u on specific details of appearance as long as u looked like u were serious bout the exam....though my lab coat did have long sleeves...however if u are planning to do an obs after that and want to wear a lab coat there (though most peds people dont) u might want to buy a long sleeved one like they where in US

Never heard of an SP being pregnant. I dont think they would even do that. Repeated examinations esp if not very gentle can have adverse effects on the fetus. Dont think they would risk that.
Mannequins for rectal/ pv exam is a possilbility in the future. i dont think they have done it so far. And, when they do plan to introduce that, I think there will be a formal announcement.
I always asked all the patients for mode of contraception , not condoms specifically. 'Cos info about OCP use could be useful. Moreover asking a general question about contraception consumed less time than asking specifically for each mode.
Paheli: your lab coat is fine. make sure it does not have the name of your med school on it.

Thanks, hitesh. I meant a female SP with an attached pregnant abd prosthesis [like in the movies] I think PE of a real pregnant woman, if applicable, would be prohibited, like rectal and pelvic exam.

Never see ppl here wear short sleeve like we did in hot warm country as while lab coat , since lab coat means protect pt & u too, so they will like u to have long sleeves , even on top of scrub short green one they put long sleeves white lab coat on .
So to b one of them better wear like them .
Shoes better not open toes , & black & leather professional look , also comfy for u too & no low line neck blous for girl , hair better tied up for neat & tidyness , dress pant makes u move better than skirt [ but up to u as comfy level ] .
Here ppl wear neutral color, no exotic [ tropical too bright color much like we did in Asia ] as the color they said , not much obvious pattern .. usually plain .. same color blous or shirt [ call solid here ........ common color are ... beige , light color of etc on top ] with black or deep color on bottom ........... but white top as solid & black solid bottom is mainly for funeral .. may b some occasion .. like wedding if red bow flower on top or for man brighter cheereful tie .
Just my 2 cents PHL & milee . by obseving ppl here .
But far south may have diffrent style of clothing since r warmer place .

Well, no one asked this, but here's something else that many people have misconceptions about. if your lab coat has the name of your med school, they will cover it up, but if its just your name, its fine with them.. though i dont think this piece of info will be helpful to anyone

ie he mentions the trade names....
or will they say "i ma taking HCTZ, atenolol " or something like tht?

Be prepared for the empathy part - what if you get a pregnant teen who will not be happy with the diagnosis. She will be visible upset - "my life is doomed, if i am pregnant". Best way to deal with that is tell them to watch the movie "Juno"
