hi all,
i am planning to appear for step 1 in mid july. my schedule is not allowing me to devote more than 3 days for biochem - can you please tell me hat is it that i must really, really concentrate on, and how can i possibly do OK at biochem by having studied fr 3 days??

some perspective on my situation. i am an IMG and i am in full time research so it is hard to study the way i would if i had a few months at my disposal to do nth else but study...im doing fine at the rest of my subjects - patho, physio, anat, pharma... getting 70+ on subjectwise qbank questions (will do usmle world at the end...).. i already did a thorough biochem review (dvd's and full notes, took me over 3 wks!) but that was 2 yrs back before i left it off and started research...

how well can i expect to do if i just do the major hi-yield topics from biochem from kaplan and do the rest from first aid??? or just first aid, and thorough review of qbank/usmle world question/answers???

thanks!
Sophy

i would say 5-6 days may be a good period for biochem given your situation. 3 days u can manage a reading but to learn the things u need to learn. spare a couple more days.

in any case if u decide to compromise. please do the genetics part of biochem well. also do the poplulation genetics equations given near the end of kaplan biochem. i had got a problem to solve based on those equations. it was very simple but i would know it if i hadnt read it.

good luck

Divide up the Biochemistry chapters. Do one or two chapters everyday along with your other subjects. That way it wont seem piled up all for those 3 days. Plus you will need time to digest the stuff...like remembering all those ATPs and all those metabolism chapter flowcharts...at least I did!
Good Luck.

if u r short of time.....read biochem from FA...wont take more than 2 days...FA suffices for biochem.
