Hey Survivors of CK, i have great difficulties imagining someone (e.g. myself) sitting still for 9 hours and not only sitting but concentrating hard..how is it possible? when practicing my brain gets so tired after 2 blocks that i have to take loooong break not something like 10 minutes.....survival advice appreciated...tx

Many things help--

foremost is the adrenalin rush during the real exam...that really pushes one much more than u can imagine

second practise at least once at home if ur uncertain (i didnt, couldnt bear to think i'd undergo that twice)

take predetermined breaks...i did 4 blocks before my first break so that i would use the initial energy maximally...then i took a break with each block.

i like to eatgrin...so made mum pack my fav stuff, and would feel happy munching that in the break..ready for the next round!

try not to think about how tired u are getting, concentrate on finishing the next block

also imagine how many people take these exams...if that many can, so can u

of course different things for different peoplesmiling face

Caffeine with adrenalin can help too. Take coffee / energy drinks etc. with you.
Practice NBME 4hours at a stretch. Try to increase your limit from 2 blocks to 3-4 blocks. I worked specially on the long hours sitting with problem solving. To increase my stamina, I once didn't sleep for 30 hours that way completely exhausting myself then took 7-hours long NBME software field trial at the prometric center. I took all NBMEs at a stretch (on different days off coursse) without any breaks. did UW and kaplan Q banks sitting long hours. Practice is the key. None of us are used to sitting for those 8-9 hours answering those mind-blowing questions. So initially everyone faces the same prob and it's what you do for it that decides how you gonna perform on the test day. I was paid for my work. I was ready for few more blocks when I finished my 8th! It's really important that you don't get exhausted in 5-6 block or you can screw up everything in last 2-3 blocks. Try and gather your energy. USMLE measures knowledge, thinking and physical&mental stamina as well. All 3 essential traits for a residency training. right?
