This is a weird article I must say.

Yes, "that somewhere in the brain a line is drawn between the lyrics and the tune.", has always amused me.
Infact last year, when i was reading about it intensly, was one of the most pleasurable moments in medicine for me till now.

Something I found really interesting in the article (this part you can find in the PDF file provided) is:
"How do you judge character from ERAS and your computer?
1. Google them. You just never no what you may find.
5. Previous demonstration of service work. Have they waited tables, served as a nurse’s aide, worked in a nursing home?
8. Don’t write off a poor USMLE record if everything else points to quality. Are poor scores accompanied by evidence of commitment to remediation?
9. What was the level of participation in service related activities? “I place more value on someone who held a leadership or management position than someone who just showed up. I’m also most impressed with someone who recognized a need in the community and actually founded a new program.”
12. Google them again right before you rank them."
Would they consider moderating a forum and running a blog a good thing?

This blog is my exploration of literary San Francisco and daily affirmation that people still read. While the Golden Gate Bridge and our hilly streets define our city's physical landscape, I believe that the books we read are markers of our mental landscapes--the character of San Francisco. Pictures are taken the day of the posting in San Francisco, unless I say otherwise. I get rejected about 20% of the time and I respect the privacy of people who do not want to be on this site. Cell phones, iPods, and sudoku may continue to occupy the BART platforms, but books are everywhere, too. San Francisco, not surprisingly, is a very well read city. I don't pretend to be well read myself--this blog is more of an attempt to live vicariously through others--though I do read and I'm very interested in why we read what we do and what makes a good book good. Right now I'm reading Air Guitar, by David Hickey.

P4a99, thats really interesting!
With social networking sites so popular, its significant what u write into ur profile...many forums dont turn up on google (neonatology subforum of studentdoctor.com) but orkut,, facebook do sometimes...kind of kills ur creative license if u think some PD is going to look at the crazy stuff u've written bout urself on some blog somewhere and not be able to take it in the right spirit!!!
googling people give u the most weird results too...many times instead of the more academic stuff i've done, like publications, the first thing it will show up will be some tution i attended...frustrating for both me and for the person who is searching me as a professional.
even if PDs googling may be paranoid, chief residents definitely do...i know this!!
BTW I do think blogging and moderating are interesting...dunno what PDs will, but am sure want to (and will) end up for residency in a place where they appreciate this!
