Hey Guys, just curious how many of u guys think people are faking that they got 99 on this forum. I am noticed quite a few ridiculously high scores from people who post on this board. So question is, do you guys think theyre exaggerating the truth???

Well everyone is allowed to write express and say what they feel or want to say. Whether they are exaggerating or doing anything else is for you to judge and assess. I can personally vouch for only those people who have showed me their score reports. And couple of others who i do believe are or have achieved apart from that i always go by this motto.

My dear friend,
Personally, I dont think anyone has the time energy and patience to fake it, with such long posts and pretty good practical advices...They just post it to make u feel that it is possible for anyone to get a 99... Many failure attempts or low scores dont get reported ( big big point )... So u always see posts like i got 99 rather than i got 85/76/whatever...
So... Answer this q.
Does they getting 99 or 280 scores in any step affect ur performance or study pattern or for that matter, ur score?
If yes.... then u need help.....
If no.... u shudnt be bothered to open this topic of discussion at all in the first instance.
I voiced my opinion... But... i didnt intend to be offensive...

Imagine...
You have got 79/75/CS(3attemps) and now you want to feel good about yourself so you post fake 99 on forum. people congratulate you and you start gifting them sanest of advises.
CAN YOU ENJOY THIS FOR 300-400 POSTS / FOR 6-12 MONTHS?? How painful it'll become to realize that whatever I am on this forum is just fantasy. Reality is that I am amongst the dumbest people around.
Personally I take words of those freshnewbies (their first post showing heroics) with a grain of salt. Even many of them are also genuine. Otherwise I tend to believe what people write or say. I see no fun faking scores. Rather it should hurt.

Has anyone ever considered cleaning up the Score threads of those 'Topic:0, Post: 1' people? Yeah, yeah, this is a free forum, and anyone can post. But, I believe the threads will be much more reflective and relative to the purpose they serve if we only keep the posts of relatively regular members. Of course, some 'regulars' can be fake too [I believe there have been instances in the past]
Just a thought....

Lol! Sorry, mod. But, just imagine how compact and informative those threads will look....Years' worth of exam-takers and their contributions, doing exactly what they set out to do.......At present, if I visit any of those threads, I prolly will pause to read one, maybe two posts in one page, those of people who seem believable. It would save sooo much time, and give so much credibility to the thread.

with spoon feeding materials like UW and self testing tools like NBME.. scoring a 99 doesnt seem like an herculean task...so i guess the score has pretty much lost its charm and doent guarantee u a residency or judge u as a doctor....(most good programs know that for sure..!!) its a great score to get nevertheless...
so i guess there is no need to be alarmed/threatened/curious about the rising 99 scorers..!!!! and the ones who are faking it... i dont c what this forum validation/praises can do to their career..!!!

Look we cant just delete the ZERO TOPIC 1 POST. No justified reason. Just cos the chap is posting it the first time well you just go on deleting it. Not fair.
I can show a lot of people excessive number of topics and posts yet turned out to be fakers. Therefore the Admin can up with the Rating of the posts. If you feel that the post is valubale then rate it as simple as that. Its completely secure. The views and the rating numbers have a flaw. The flaw is that if the person who posted that thread keeps refreshing that page it increases the view number. So I usually dont see what view and the rating counters say. I just go for the VAlue of the post. I judge it based on its worth. If every senior member starts doing it then we will have a collection of good valuable material.
The worst thing that usually happens on the forums is that some people start seriously IDOLISING some people which creates a whole lot of issues. And if you say one negative thing about that person then there is a lot of hoop la over it and eventually the good members just simply away. This is the thing that constantly worries me.

Look let the people post their scores its harmless. I have seen good people join us after giving a step. So That Delete Button is to be used wisely cos we might scare of a good chap.

i dont really care what other people score on these exams, because not everybody studies the same or has the same capabilities.
I only look to find out what are the books & qbanks the MAJORITY of people are using (not just the 99'ers) and recommending. not on 1 website, but on a couple.

Faking a 99 on an anonymous forum is certainly a possibility.
But unless someone is majorly screwed in his head I dont know why he'd do it.
I agree with deja vu; wat point is there in faking when u've done poorly on the actual exam. It would only serve as a painful reminder of the truth, unless of course u prefer living in a make belief world.
Also some people here seem to believe that a 99 is extremely rare. Its not. Every 5th AMG has atleat one 99 on his CV and if u see the statistics at nrmp.org the the number of IMGs getting very high scores is constantly on the rise. For example for the 2007 match about 60 IMGs scored more than 260 on step1, while this figure was around 200 for step2ck. Approximately 3 times this number of AMGs have these scores.
And when u look at this forum not even half those numbers have posted here. So what u see here is not really an exaggeration, you in fact dont see most such scores!
What makes these scores seem common on forums such as this is that people who score poorly do not usually post their scores.
Every year about 13000 IMGs take the USMLE step1 exam, and how many post their scores here? Only about a 100 or so. In fact for the 4 years they've had the score thread here not more than 500 test takers have posted their scores here. Which is really nothing compared to the actual numbers writing the test. And who are the guys who usually post on this thread? Obviously people who've done well on the exam. So u tend to feel that just bout everyone is getting a 99 these days and almost every other guy has a huge score, which in fact is somewhat misleading (although a lot of guys do get exceptionally high scores but most never post here).
Personally I feel if u doubt wat people say around here its best that you dont visit these forums. Why believe anything if u dont believe their scores. I would rather believe than not believe and see wat i can gain from the guys experience. If u feel there's something worth following then go ahead and do it, if not then dont. Its all very simple. And really this is the purpose all these forums serve. On the other hand if u are unsure about ur own abilities and doubt if u can really achieve a good score u start thinking may be this other guy is lying; if I cant do it probably nobody can. This is how human nature works lots of times man, and not many can overcome this fallacy.
In the end it all boils down to how u handle ur situation. The better you are at it the better you will score. And then a score is just one means to an end...there's so many others u need to take care of.
Simply said you are the master of ur own destiny, believing or not believing is just one way you can alter it. For good or for bad, the decision is totally yours.

i dont think many here would fake 99 99. although a 99 99er is much more likely to post his or her score than a low scorer. that is why u see somany of them around !

getting 99 is not very uncommon now a days....so far from my batch 9 ppl gave step1 and 4 got 99...yeah...stil thr is a possiblity that sum ppl may be faking...but not many...

i love the score thread.i daily check the score thread...look up scores of people who took the test in '04,'05...seeing good scores make me happy and keeps me positive..i dont care if some scores there are faked.infact i never thought anyone would fake their scores.....i just feel inspired when i see a very high score.....
if so many people are getting 99 i can get too.....and if some 99 faker's score post inspires me and helps me get a 99...i'd be happy for myself !

How truely said!! Score thread used to be the place where I got my energy from. There I came to know that scores do not end at 99. There are people who have scored in 260s so why can't I?? 
As you said, even if someone is faking his score and I believe it blindly (putting myself at risk of being called immature , will I ever regret doing that??!! Nooooooooo.....
