just a quick quest ,which is the best test for gallstones usg or ct?

US for gallbladder/ ERCP for CBD stones.

thanks but i think in uw there was a ques which said that ct better than usg..i really dont rem..can some1 ans that?

my notes on gallbladder (probably from uw or uptodate) have something you said:

for GB stones Abd Ultrasound has same accur as CT

dear all.

Ultrasound is not as CT scan. Ultrasound is not able to detect stones in the portion of bile duct behind the duodenum because of the air attenuation present in the duodenum as it is a hollow cavity. Although there is usually no air there but it can cause problems with visualization. Same happens if the person is very fat. Fat causes a lot of problems with ultrasound.

So if asked for MORE ACCURATE. It is definitely CT but the first best test would be Ultrasound

US is good for gall bladder; US is not good enough for e.g. ductus choledochus, so contrast methods are better there
