hi, i ve got a question. in a patient with terminal ca who requests pain medication( as in UW), ARE WE EXPECTED TO DO pamhugsfoss, inv, and D/D? ur answers would be highly appreciated. thanks

I would reassure the patient that we will give him /her pain meds and make sure he /she is comfortable but also take a complete history and perform a focused physical exam as this is the first time I'll be seeing the patient. Ask about Life support. If the patient wants to be resusitated in case his / her heart stops beating. As far as D/Ds go.........you can put her primary diagnosis as your # 1 and then maybe depression, cachexia seconday to whatever............ As far as investigations go.........maybe CBC, BUN, Cr, Electrolytes........depends on the case. I doubt that you'll get something like that on the exam though. I could be wrong. Input from others would be helpful..............
