I have matched and am getting worried that my H1 processing will never actually happen. I want to know if it has actually happend to someone that he matched to a H1 sponsoring program and yet could not begin a residency! Has anyone heard of people matching but not being able to join at all due to visa probelms ? If yes can you please mention what sort of a visa problem did they have.

Talk to the program. Some programs will wait until your visa is ready, i.e., start the residency two or three months later. Also using premium processing for H1, you can get the visa within 4 weeks.

Very sad to read this, Motorola... I think you have enough time... Do you know which service center processes your petition?

Nope , not heard about it yet . But hear about almost all r worried death re visa especially when come to J visa here , not H visa though . True is still early , also if needed , let the program know as others already mentioned to buy the time or who knows , they might guide u .. key is lawyer , & day of visa interview I think . Do contact the visa embassy site directly when u have all papers needed to apply for & get the interview or get H1 stamp with no interview needed at some place , depends on ur citizenship & where u r applying at . So do not give up yet . We will all pray for u GL

I have not heard in dealys in getting I-797, with premuim processimng it is even earlier..... but I know 2 people from last year who are my friends matched on H1b and did not recieve their visa for 5 months and lost their spots. 1 of them matched in comminity program and one in uni on H1.. the delay was in FBI clearance, though their visas were approved. 1 of them voluntarily withdrew his application after 5 months and the other one eventually got visa after 7 months at London embassy, but ofcourse lost his spot at uni program... FBI clearance is usually done for males 16 - 45, muslims and can be linked to any country but esp middleeast, India , Pakistan and UK (asian origin). If you are not a muslim, you should ideally not have any problems, unless N korean.

From a program point of view - H's are the visa with more headaches. More residents started my program late on H visas than J1 visas. My program will wait as long as we know that the delay is not due to the applicant. Please keep in touch with your program, let them know what's going on, stay in contact with your coordinator. Good luck.

Hi Motorola, Even I'm expecting problems with my H1 B processing. I wonder what will happen if I cannot start on time. Will the program be ok if I join 2 weeks late?

Thanks BBB, I just mailed the PC..... what you said is so true, only the program knows what they do with such delays in visa and joining.

agree with bbb...you can go on "leave" immediately ( i mean, you would start the year on leave, so you won't have any left during the year, but sacrifices do have to be made...) or go for "electives". the scary thing though is that if you are not physically present on july 1, that is grounds for match revocation.

Which is why I tell residents (or soon to be residents) to be up front with the program, etc. However, many hospitals can't put you on leave, because without a visa, you are not eligible to be employed. It's a catch 22 situation. If the program waits for you to get the visa (and many will because it's easier than going through more interviews), you will simply be off cycle (start late, finish late).

Kingsofke, how many does it take to get H-1B papers through premier processing? Will the papers go to lawyer and Program too and than come to us? My papers haven't been filed yet, and due to some unavoidable reasons they will be filed on 1 of June most probably. So, how early can I expect my papers in hand?

God, this phase is scarier than the match.

To ea: after getting documents from my lawyer took another week to fill out forms and another week to get it signed by the hospital and filing. Surprisingly i got my premium processing petition approval notice(on email) in 4 days and the actual petition in another week through the lawyer. To ssrpk; man i am really surprised to hear that your program is not showing flexibility. I wish you get your visa on time and i am quite positive you would.
