is it just me or are these two kinda hard to differentiate??
ok, histo is the one with the skin lesions, and coccidioido is somewhat milder... that's all i can say after desperate attempts to set up a differential... but then again it's been like, what 10h of studying today?...
i'm sure you guys can do much better nod so, the stage is yours smiling face

ok i've messed it up, so once again:

Coccidioido - southWEST, non-specific sx (fever, fatigue, dry cough, W/L, pleuritic chest pain),
SKIN LESIONS (erythema multiforme, erythema nodosum), arthralgias

Histo - southEAST, acute pneumonia w/ fever, cough, malaise

i'd appreciate any suggestions on how to memorize this. rolling eyes

its been my experience that questions about these infections will always include geographic information -
example
histo - usually a question about a person exploring caves (spelunking)... usually in the southeast (Mississippi, etc...)
Coccidio - usually a person who traveled to or lives in the southwestern region of the US (arizona, new mex, texas, etc...)

i agree with cocacola(nice name) [smiling face]

n as Goljan said- Histo cant live in Hot atmosphere ( H for H) so Histo is found in southeast area near Mississippi river bed

n coccidio in southwest area eg. california
