I have a few questions about acceptable abbreviations for the patient note (My exam is on Friday so any help would be greatly appreciated) 1) Can we use arrows (up arrow/ down arrow) for increased/decreased? 2) Cab BS be used for both breath sounds and bowel sounds? 3) Can I write years as yrs (eg: 3 yrs), months as mo (eg: 3 mo) and weeks as wks (3 wks)? 4) Instead of always writing soften non tender, non distended can I write S/NT/ND (they so that sometimes in usmle world)? Thanks everyone......

http://www.prep4usmle.com/forum/thread/16646/ there are a few acceptable abbreviation to be allowed in CS ...and a list of that is present at the desk where u write the PN (also there in FA)...i would suggest stick to those....it isnt worth the risk of not being understood for a few seconds

Thanks for the reply.......I know about the abbreviation list,...however if you see their sample patient note, there are abbreviations that are not on the list. So I figured if everything was clear, (eg: 3yrs)...it should be okay.......though I was afraid of using things off the list..... I guess I'll try my best to write out every word,.......
