I prematched at ABC program, signed the contract, and my J1 visa is under processing at US embassy. To my bad luck, i forgot to withdraw from match and found myself matched at XYZ program. Now XYZ program is asking to accept the agreement or they will take legal actions. Please let me know if anybody knows anything that i can do in this situation. It seems to be a big mess now..

Uh oh sounds like a mess! Why did you certify and submit your Rank Order List if you had already accepted a prematch? confused

Maybe u could ask ABC to talk to XYZ and also see if writing to NRMP and getting a match waiver is possible...but i think it will mostly depend on how forgiving the XYZ prog is feeling...all the best man!

"FORUM GURU"....FORGOT TO DROP OFF FROM THE MATCH???

  #5

wow that's not good...call ecfmg...don't tell them about urself but just ask a general queston that if that happens then what should a candidate do?

mani, I do not want to sound harsh, but what you just did is a very big offense.. Not only XYZ programs, but to all img match applicants... Thousands of applicants want a spot, but couldnt find any and ALL because you "just forgot," left a potential candidate without a match...

I just cant stand how selfish and immature your behavior was...

I feel offended, ABC and XYZ should be offended and you should be held responsible of any liability this may cause.. I dont think you can get sued, but you can end without a position and banned from the NRMP for a couple of years...
You were lucky enough to get a prematch and at the same you should have paid back by withdrawing from the match..

I hope you find a meaning in my words and not take them as an attack... Many people like you and I have gambled with our lives in this process. Congratulations you just left one comrade without a match...

Bravo, Mazinger, and bis please...
Anyone stepping on a path of practicing medicine must be liable for any decisions he had made... I wish ECFMG/NRMP/programs had no understanding and flexibility in this case... I personally see an intent in this bullsh*t behavior as forgetting to withdraw is one thing and submitting the rank list after offer was accepted is another one...

i find this a little difficult to understand how this ERROR could have happened since pre matches end latest feb and rank order usually is submitted after that.
I agree with the other posts above if you were this ........ (please fill in the gap ) to forget to withdraw then facing the consequence should not be difficult.

Question Which program do you like the most? The one tha prematched you or the one where you were match?

So this is the NRMP link that states what needs to be done and what the consequences are.

In any of the "favorable" consequences ordered by NRMP, PDs of either programs will not trust this applicant, and this would be absolutely right... Who would need a liar in his program? What a nice beginning of the career in this country!!!

when i was a youngster i used to go to these professional wrestling matches with my buddies to get drunk and have fun. in every section of the arena there were these loud and funny characters that would blend in with spectators and make all kinds of commnets to get every one going. we all enjoyed it even after we found out that they were part of the act...!!!???

it sounds someone was looking for a better opportunity in match and later decided to stick with prematch. HAVE heard a few people do that. The XYZ program has a right to take legal action.

I am sorry to say; but this is a ridiculous thing and shame on you.

Upps It dosen't look good....This was not a smart move at all!!!
I got a prematch, and I can't believe that you just forgot to do it, Ichecked myself like 10 times to be sure that my status was withdrawn, and as other person said after you got the prematch offer and you sign the letter of intent you had about 8 weeks to withdraw from the match. Also if you found out that you got match an another site this was because you were checking regulary your account with NRMP, and the first thing you see when you log in is your status, so you have not been sincere here.....you tried to play both ways and now you are in a big time trouble!!!

As some others have said, it is difficult to believe that you forgot to withdraw from the match. It involves too many mistakes and overlooks. That's why most prematches are offered until January, so programs can take into account accepted prematched positions before constructing their ROL.
Most programs even need you to CHECK YOU WITHDRAWAL STATUS with them in order to avoid this sort of "accident" (Match was not invented yesterday, and this scenario has probably happened before). Nevertheless, since there is an option to reinstate yourself once you withdraw, you could probably play behind their back and wait to see if one matches someplace else. If this is your case indeed (and my guess is that they can verify this easily), it's an even worse situation. I particularly have no idea how someone would think this could possibly work given the very clear rules on the subject.

This a very complicated position for you. Get legal advice ASAP. Not taking the matched position is a clear violation of the Match agreement. The matching program, by itself, cannot let you of the hook. It has to go through the NRMP.

Good luck

Yes, it' could be a prank, but it usually goes from newcomers on this forum, with one or two new post in his credits, and similar number of replies to other posts. However, this post is by GURU (obviously not) of the forum, and I am sure the problem is real.
May it be a lesson to all dishonest applicants...

ok, we'll take his/her word for it..

mani you can not find an excuse in the solar system to justify your action..xyz pd must be out of his/her mind to ask u to accept the match. the pd should go to nrmp get a waiver and go to the next applicant on the list b-4 is too late. abc pd is wondering how we could have this guy on board and in all honestly how could you show your face to either of these programs. my advice to you, come clean to all the parties involved and let them know of your intention that you wanted to see if you can fool the system and face the consequences. but knowing u'r an img and in need of visa..then u realy need some professional legal advice.

from those of us that didnt match including yours truly..we would like to extent our thanks to u and people like u for ur contribution ofcourse.

the most honorable job to have in this world is six letter word "D-O-C-T-O-R"..and sorry to say; sir/madam you are not fit to be one!!

but i gotta handed to you...ur post real or not ..you got us all going..GL

Hmm, when you submitted your rank list, you forgot that you knew that you signed a prematch? Sounds like you wanted to play roulette, and now you want to change the rules. You have a legal obligation to the program that you matched with.

Maybe there will be two late positions opening.rolling eyes

OK guys I know it is unfair... this cinical person believes we are all fools. BUT he will have to give account for everything to somebody else, not us. let all of us calm down and learn from his experience. we who play clean will be rewarded at some point grin
