A 23 year old female has never menstruated. Pubic and axillary hair are absent. Her breasts are small and uterus is not palpable. Karyotype analysis reveals 46, XY. DNA analysis demonstrates point mutation in one of the codons in the androgen receptor gene. Subsequently, exploratory surgery is performed and gonadal structures are removed from the abdomen. Histologic analysis of the gonads reveal the presence of seminiferous tubules with normal leydig cells.
