Hola!

Hi guys!!!

I am so happy to see your messages!!!..me too, I thought I was here alone, how mistaken I was.
Esto de prepararse para este examen esta dificil.. yo estoy en Mexico y no encuentro a nadie aca que se este preparando, sometimes I wonder if I am doing things right.
I have given myself 6 months to take the exam, but I am also studying for the "examen nacional " here, though my priority is the step one which I am planning to take in Sept.
Can any body recommend a good review book for Biochem and Physiology?
I am studying from the FA, NMS, and I am thinking about the Kaplan course (althought I know it is REALLY expensive).. any input??
Well, hope to see you around.
Wen.

dra_wen
Physiology Linda S. Costanzo. BRS.
Biochemistry Dawn B. Marks BRS
They are pretty complete just what you need. you have time to read them if you will take the exam in 6 month?
Kaplan is very good too but as you say very expensive.
I have Exam master it is very good too, but I haven' taken the test so I have to take the test to say if it is really good or not.
I am been studying for almost 1 year and half, and I've been asking for latin people in this forum, for almost all this time so thanks to ipseg to get us together.
I wish the best to everyone Colombia ,ipseg, and now dra_wen. see you soon in some hospital in USA.

For the advice on the books I need to study, Good luck on your exam too.. May 26?..very close!
I am trying to study about 5 hrs a day, but I find it kind of difficult to concentrate, my ability to focus is about an hr then I need a break of about 10 mins to concentrate for another hr, does that happen to you ??.. How do you study?.. I work in the afternoons and find it easier to study in the mornings.
Well, I guess I will see you around in some Hospital in the US, as you said..GOOD LUCK..and lets keep in touch.

I use to work 7 days a week, from 0600 am to 1500 pm, but strating this week I will be working 5 days a week from 0600am to 1400 pm, so I have to study one hour between 1400 pm to 1600 pm because I have to go and get my 2 kids from schol, and after that I go to the GYM from 1630 pm to 1730pm , because I am diabetic and I find aerobics very helful for my sugar levels ,really I start studying from 1830 pm until I get tire but before 2400. It is hard been a father but I have to do it, rigth now I am working as LVN which mean Lic. Vocational Nurse, It is not the best work in the world but I do not have a money problems at this moment. I am liaving in Mcallen Texas.

Hi guys!

Hi dra_wen, drcherry...

drcherry, I still in DR and I haven't begun to study yet, first I want to plan things right and then, when a get organized, I'll begin...
The thing is that I am hesitating about taking it here or in Miami, I'll love to do so, but I will have to work there while I'm studying, and I know it's very hard, besides I don't know what kind of job I could have into the medical area, meanwhile I'm studying,
Any suggestions???

Regards!

I think we should be a lot (latinamerican taking USMLE), but not all of us know about this forum.
I'm from Colombia, working 40 hrs a week on a non-medical related field. Married and two children (6 and 3), not easy, believe me.
But we have to give us the opportunity to do our best in the USMLE. I just apply to take Step 1. September 13 is my date. Reading a lot of posts in this forum I decided by BRS, I just received them and think it was good decision. Biochemsitry and Pharma from Lippincott's.
Will suscribe to Q-bank 3 months before the test.
Best luck to everybody.
Note: I'm living in Hollywood, Florida.

That's the best thing from USMLE anyone who had studied Medicine will take the test, what you do or how old you are does not matter. This test is very hard, but we are Doctors already, that's the best thing.
KarNico. if you are planing to study with a lot of question starting today, and also BRS and FA that will help you pass the terst. follow that and you will pas . I heard that Goljan's reviw notes are very good,I will take my test on may, I really don't have time for read Goljans, but you try it you will see it is a good book.

Good luck.

Saludos a todos,

Well I see there is some people that I can identify myself with here. I am preparing to take the USMLE in July but also preparing to take tha Nacional de Residencia en Mexico este Septiembre. My goal is to get into the residency here in the US. I grew up here in the US. So I feel more comfortable living here then in Mexico. I wento to med school in mexico. But while I get inot the residency here I want to start a residency where ever in the meantime. That is Mexico, spain or the US. BUt getting into Spain is a lot tougher then I thought. So Dr. Wen wish good luck. What books are you using for the Nacional? I am using Dr. Huitron. and other books including some that I am using for the USMLE.

Well good luck to all and kkep in touch.

Enrique
