Does anyone know whether we have to wash our hands with soap before examination?

Every one knows: YES... Or use gloves which is less patient friendly but still OK

Justice, I think his question is whether you need to use soap or is just water enough Most of the times, the SP wont be looking at HOW you're washing your hands. But I'd say better use soap and not risk being 'caught' and getting embarrased. Moreover, it'll save you only 10secs at best. Besides, Do you really not care for hygiene at all?

Sorry, Hitesh, but I don't understand how it is to wash hands without soap... What's the reason to show that you make your hands wet? What do you do in a real life, with true patients? A person allows you to touch him, so why wouldn't I pay my sincere respect and make my hands clean? It is not for another "+" on the list, it's about being a doctor... And lastly, it's about hygiene, as you wisely mentioned...

Will try my best : Rest assured, the proctors WILL TELL you to wash your hands each time before you examine the SPs, i.e. in case you're not used to doing it But, while we're at it, i do think that they should have those anti-septic rub-on hand sanitizers, like strilex and all.. 'Cos thats what most doctors use in real life before/after touching a patient.

They do have alkohol swabs in a jar on a sink side, but those are for cleaning the steth, if you prefer... In my exam, I used to clean the steth in front of the SP so he could see that... Takes ~5 secs, and I could do it while asking about anything...

I, too, did that.. cleaning my steth with a spirit swab.. And I was expecting to get some response from the SPs, like a smile or something..lol.. but nope, the SPs were pretty indifferent to it.. But, I did it anyway. Now, that is something I did for an extra "+" on the list.. I dont do that normally with all my patients.. Though, now i do think that i should..
