pseudotumor cerebri
what you give first?
Steroids or Acetazolamide?
For some reason I have in my head steroids but UW says is acetazolamide.
anyone want to talk about it

iv acetazolamide is the rx of choice for pseudotumour cerebri.mannitol not used...if recurrent can go for optic sheath decompression.....lps not useful since fills up very fast...

But what about steroids and preventing blindness?

steroids may be used if there is deteriorating vision ..however long term use not recommended cos of steroids side affects

standard approach for Pseudo tumor cerebri is
no visual loss - Acetazolemide: decreases CSF production
severe symptom, early visual loss or poor response to standard therapy - short course of high dose steroid: helps to prevent visual loss
if visual loss continue despite steroid- surgery : Lumboperitoneal shunt or ventriculoperitoneal shunt
