Hi folks,
I'm expecting to hopefully pass CS, and get result in mid June. Does anyone know how quickly i'd be able to sit step3, could I get a slot for the exam in mid august i.e period Aug- October 2008?

When you get your ECFMG certificate (after passing all steps and the successful verification of your diploma) you can apply for step 3. You cannot choose your eligibility period like for the other steps. As soon as they receive your application your eligibility period starts. They give you additionally 10-15 days because of the processing time.

How long is the whole process once you pass steps 1+2 and apply for step 3? Is it quite prompt, is ECFMG registration immediate?

Don't forget for the ECFMG certification you need not only the scores from all steps available BUT ALSO your medical degree verified! Once all requirements are fullfilled you'll get your ECFMG certificate anyway from 2 business days (if you live in the US) to 2 weeks.
Then you can submit your application for step 3. It takes about 1-2 weeks to get your scheduling permit. As I said your eligibility period starts immediately plus the additional 10-15 days they give you for the processing delay.
