Hello everyone, I'm just posting this message in search of an adviice from anyone on this forum who has experience in this matter.

My step 1 exam is on June 27, 2008. I'm an IMG graduated in 2006 who works full time as a research coordinator until 5PM, then at 6 or 7 PM hit the books until 12AM aproximately. This process has been going on for 6 months and here are some of the important guidelines:

Online NBME 1 (11/20/2007 - before studying) 490
Online NBME 2 (1 month ago ) 560
UW 70% (completed) mixed time
Right now using online kaplan Qbank 69% (15% completed)

The problem is that people keep telling me to take the exam right away, but I haven't finished reading all the books, specially Goljan which this is the first time Im reading it along with its audios.

I will appreciate if someone provides with an advice, thank you very much and gl on steps.

BTW, I'm aiming for a 95+

You have an excellent score without Goljan. His new book should take you a month to finish if you do it with the audios.

To your question there is no right answer to this but only one. Give the exam YOU FEEL that you are confident and ready to give the exam. You have good scores people are advising based on that you are ready to give. Honestly for this exam you will never feel prepared but it has to be you who has to decide whether if you are ready or not.

If you feel that adding a new book is dragging you down and slowing you in ur goal then drop it. If you have done the notes and the audios you are basically covered. IF you havent done Goljan and used another source then believe me its working for you. I would say just go thru Goljan tables and charts. You are covered.

However its entirely based on you how you feel and how much you are ready and feeling ready. Its you who has to swallow this pill and decide we can only advise you and help you on the way.

Hello Dr. Cosme. I have a question to ask if you don't mind? How did you find work as a research coordinator? Did you have to do some additional certificate? Was the foreign medical degree enough to get a job with? I'm interested in getting a research job, but I don't know how to get started. A detailed would be appreciated. Thank You.

Hi Myna, I first started as a volunteer research assistant at Lincoln Hospital in Bronx, NY for 6 months. Then, I saw an opening for a research coordinator for the pediatrics emergency department at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Besides research experience, a good medical background ( and an IMG) is a lot of help. Also, the hospital is located in a hispanic community so spanish was a plus for me. So in short, experience + solid medical background is all you need, and of course a good interview, good luck.
