how to apply : ERAS which one is beter : in my opinion categorical but that is not much of an issue in program ranking more chances to get: is independant of if its categorical or not. although chances of getting prelim IM are tougher than getting advance neurology and every hear i heard of somebody getting matched in advance but not in prelim. transitional year is targeted for undecided souls who want to experiment with different fields of medicine. it has much more modifible rotation schedule and many electives. It can be used as a preliminary year IF it satisfies requirements of rotations for the advance position. e.g i think there are 7 months of floor required for neuro and maximum one month of neuro and one month of icu and etc. transitional is almost impossible to get. preilm IM has almost the same structure as first year of categorical position and thus more rigid rotation schedule.
