A clinical study is designed to test the efficacy of a new diuretic. Prior to administration of the drug, a subject's glomerular filtration rate (GFR) was at 150ml/min. Assuming that the drug is freely filtered, the excretion rate after attaining a plasma concentration of 5mg/ml will be approximately which of the following?
A. 150 mg/min
B. 250 mg/min
C. 450 mg/min
D. 600 mg/min
E. 750 mg/min

Excretion rate is equal to Filtration rate. Therefore:

Excretion rate=Filtration rate

Excretion rate= GFR x Plasma concentration

Excretion rate= 150 ml/min x 5 mg/ml

Answer is E (750 mg/ml)
