hi guys...got my step 1 score 85/207 ....i am so very depressed and dissappointed. i studied for 5 to 6 months with full dedication , solved kaplan q bank and uworld too. thought my exam was decent too...didnt expect 99 but thought id do better than this...i am a postgrad in ophthal in my home country and this score is a big set back for me to have any hopes in being in the run for ophthal which is so competitive in itself!!!
in todays competitive world, do i even stand a chance with 85? i have lost all my confidence in appearing for step2....i have been a very bright student all along and my parents and husband had great faith in me that ll do well..i dont know how to face anyone....what should i do?
whats the solution my friends? is there any hope for me with my poor scores?? how shall i tell my family??

First thing my friend,
Believe that good will things will eventually happen to good hardworking people.
u worked hard for step 1 got 85, never mind,
u can easili get into residency if only u think u can.
Tell everybody that u tried hard and then tell them this time u will try harder than ever to better ur score on step 2.
Dont give up.
I believe there is a residency spot waiting for you for 2009 match ,Dont u want it ?
Dont u wanna be doing ur dream post graduation ?
If answer is Yes, Then take 2-3 days break. And come back studying for Step 2.
But if u accept the facts, and now onwards try harder and harder , u will get ur residency spot.
See u at an Internal / Family Medicine Program in Juky 2009.

hey i think its not bad score,its a good score ,bc anybody who score 80 plus can residency .....so dont cry ,dont lose hope ,i think u should thanx GOD for this and look forward for future,u hav 2 exam left tis just begining of ur usmle ...u hav to pass step 2 ck then step 2 cs ,followed by step 3 soo still long long way to go..dont panic think positive, and be happy with ur score bc its bad score at all......thanx GOD,,this score will not change with ur grief soo why u thnk negative be positive and think uhav to do 3 more exam for complete MD here sooo dont lose focus and try to do much better in step2 ........in the end i just wanan say dont worry and think positive and try to score 90 plus in step 2 it will balance u in interview call ,,,best of luck

Yes, ophthalmology is tough to get in...but they look not only on your scores... your personality, English, year of graduation...there are a lot of factors to play together... Your score is above average. Most good programm will take 80+ You are still have a chance to get into ophtalmology if not then pick up IM.
Everything you want is possible.

I was very depressed myself when i got a 215/89 in step 1 , i thought i had worked so hard and done so well in the test that when i got that score i was devastated! The thing is, that during interviews every PD congratulated me saying a score over 85 was considered a good score. I Studied very hard for step 2 and got a 230/95. Thinking about it, i think for step 1 i was overconfident, maybe that was it. Work hard,you still have more tests to take, trust God.. really! He is the key.
You will be fine.
