My eligibility period is expiring April 30th. The earliest I can next apply is may the 14th. When I contacted ECFMG I was informed that the processing of the application may take upto 3 weeks.

My question is how long does it usually take to process? How soon can I write?

I wanted another couple of weeks to prepare and so I was looking around May 15th. But with this information I was wondering when is the earliest I could write.

This is urgent as I need to write on the 30th April if I cannot write before the 20th May. Please let me know.

much appreciated.thanks.

I was hoping somebody could help.

The thing is I wanted to write around May 15th. So if I applied on the 14th when can I take the exam at the earliest? coz ECFMG already have everything with them (I have an eligibility period with them now) So how soon does the processing happen?

Thanks a lot. Please need urgent help.

have you extended your eligibility period? or is this the first 3 months for you exam? if you havent already extended your eligibility period, then you could apply for an extension now, and it will take anywhere from 10 days to 3 weeks to process your request. but the ecfmg office needs your application for extenstion to be completed before the 25th of may. keep in mind, may through july is a very heavy testing period, so it might be difficult to get a test appointment.

if you have already extended your eligibility period, then you will have to wait until the end of your current eligibility period to apply for a new testing period.

honestly, dont take what i've said as the final word, this is just what i think is true. PLEASE call the ecfmg office and keep asking questions until they have answered everything you wanted to know. good luck!

yeah this is my extended eligibility period.so thats not an option.

the one thing I know for sure is that I can submit a new application only on May 14th not before.

The issue is if I apply on the 14th how long will it take to process and allow me to take a new date. As I already have an eligibilty period that means ECFMG already has all the documents and stuff for an application right? So does it still take 2-3 weeks? ECFMG keeps saying it may take upto 3 weeks. I asked them again and again and he just kept repeating that info.

thank you very much for the reply.

oh, okay...i'm not sure what the may 14th restriction is, but i dont think you will be able to take the exam in may since your application probably wont be processed in time...i think the next testing period that you can take it in will probably be june/july/august or july/august/september. but i'm not totally sure.

i think it takes anywhere from 10 days to 3 weeks to process your application even if you've already applied before. this is their standard time for processing for new applications as well as extensions. but call ecfmg and talk to them, they can clarify the situation for you. hope things work out for you

I have been told that they do take the applications on the first day after the eligibility period but do not process till after 14 days and then SP is given anywhere between 2-6 days (based on 3 diff people's experiences)

Thank you so much for your help.and also to those who have PMed me or IMed me.thanks a lot.

hey if ur extended elgilbility (u already extended once since u first 3 month time frame ended) yes apply on day 1 right after ur permit ends, it will take lik 2 weeks usually, and u will get email, so apply immediately, i have done so, and got permit around 15-16, so u will be able to take in may.. now if u haven't extended ur first permit, well that i just did today as well, and i hope it dosnt take so long as id like to take my exam on 10th or so, we shall see, let's hope it works for us both!! good luck!

I have the same issue. I extended my eligibility period and just now I've read that they take upto 3 weeks to process it. :S So, that means I will have to cancel my appointment with the prometric center which is on the 21st of this month, right? So, until they process my application for extension I wont be able to take a date for the next month?
And did you guys get an email from them immediately after you applied for an extension?
Sigh, such a horrible process.

Oh, I didn't realise this was for step 1. My application is for step 2 ck. But I'm assuming the procedures are the same.
