I know...I went through the various threads posted on this forum. But Id like a better idea on what steth to buy, since my Classic II SE was stolen in my final year. Im torn between a Littman Cardio (Master or III) and the more favorable (according to many posters on various sites) Welch Harvey Elite, which they say has better acoustics than any of the Littmans. Whats your take, friends ?

Hmmm Im looking to replace my Littmann II which was a replacement for my Littmann III that was stolen! This Littmann II was horrible! I was soo disappointed in it I do not want to purchase another Littmann. However when looking at the Welch line...they all seem to have two heads. Is this really necessary? I know they say the bell side is used for lower frequency sounds but to have to switch between listening for murmurs and carotid bruits is annoying. Has anyone considered a single head stethescope...how are the acoustics with them? Also, Welch does not come in longer than 25" but my Littmann was 27" is this a concern? or a better design? Any and all input would be helpful.

I have used Littmanm and WA. I would advice Littmann over WA. If you have a lot of money and dont mind looking 'odd', Phillips has an electronic stethoscope with amplifiers and stuff !

LittM all the time the best except yup any electronic steto will may , not sure beat LittM . Motorola lets save money for that electronic steto when we r 75 Cardiotone is better than Classic II SE , but no point if not want to b cardiologist since Cl II is more than enough . Also if in Europe , UK , used to have longer cord or shorter with better sound than North America same LittM .., may b just my 2 cents . Bell is important , why not want to have that in steto . Bell is useful for so many but here most pt has really soft hard to get BP sound when check so have to use bell most of the time . GL in ur steto hunt , go to store try it on listening to self or partner's heart , breathing then u will see which u like . doc750 .......... I like to get that good one , in ... Red color... can you help me find it GL

Littman Master classic has a bell shwe....its just a different mechanism. u listen to a heart sound while applying less pressure(tht works as a diaphragm). you apply more pressure there....the bell picks up the low pitched sounds..

Soooooooooo 2 heads are better than 1? Does one head suffice for low pitch sounds? Or will nothing be amplified as well as a bell of a stethescope can? I really never considered a Welch Allyn but with the poor experience of my Littmann II I really wish I had more input about them.

I've decided to get the................Littmann Master Cardiology. Ive read reviews saying it has better acoustivs than the Littmann III. Also, it is a single head. I do not know why I am so stuck on this issue but I just think it is inconvenient to have to turn the head of a scope to guess what you want to hear on a brand new patient. Hmmm now the only question is if I want to pay extra for engraving...

I would go with the littman. a very renowned cardiologist always used to say to put our stethoscopes away, his reasoning, they are for dermatologists, a true cardiologist would never need a stethoscope. He used to always describe and demonstrate the murmur in a patient after taking a proper history and general examination.

One more question guys, why not many people are going with CardioIII? I have seen all big shot docs here in US using that one. Is it due to cost that people here are not prefering that. Please let me know. Thanks.

Alot of students/doctors use the Littmann III. I had one when I was a student but it was stolen before I was able to truly appreciate it. It is a little more costly than some models but in my opinion you pay for what you get when it comes to a stethoscope! Just be thorough and surf the web for the best possible deal. You will be amazed at the differences in prices. I am getting the Master Cardiology and I have seen it range from about $170 up to $245! Not to mention shipping and possible engraving.
