hi everybody here i share with all of you my cs experience , i hope it will help someone as i got a lot of help from reading this forum . i prepared for around 15 days , and i think its enough but it depends ; when u feel u r well prepared u should go for it even if it means a month or more . so what material i used for it .------ FIRST AID IS BEST . read it thoroughly including the mini cases . most of my cases were from this book . for physical examination i used UW VIDEOS , they were good , u should take a look at them . but i think one doesn't need to go through the whole UW . i also went through the didgitaldoc's website , it actually helped me a LOT , I RECOMMEND THIS TO EVERYONE. take look through each section , it won't take long . WHAT WE NEED TO START 1 ) YOU WITH UR STUDY MATERIAL 2) A STUDY PARTNER , anyone who can act as your patient . thats it so how do we start , i think reading FA AND DIGITALDOC's website will tell u a lot . well , make prtocol to encounter your patients in general and stick to it ( make room for accomodating every patient as each patient is different ) take a look at this http://csprotocol.blogspot.com/2006/02/simple-pro... and this one too http://csprotocol.blogspot.com/2006/10/step-2-cs-... i used this and modified it according to my needs when you have a protocol and u know what to do its all a matter of PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. at least practice all the cases on the first aid with your partner and do it in times fashion , let your partner evaluate you . improve your mistakes over time , believe me you will improve a lot and on the exam day it will be like icing on the cake . and do remember to write your patient notes , do practice them . start with your differential diagnoses and investigations as they are most important , write them in correct order , its very important . then go on to write your history and physical examination . also practice on phone cases , at least once or twice. now some basics AS U START , READ THE CASE NOTE PATIENTS NAME , COMPLAINT , ABNORMAL VITALS. KNOCK ON DOOR SMILE AND ENTER MAKE AN EYE CONTACT INTRODUCE PROPERLY AND SHAKE HANDS . DRAPE THE PATIENT SIT ON STOOL ASK HOW CAN YOU HELP THEM SHOW EMPATHY FOR THE ILLNESS START ASKING QUESTIONS RULE OUT IMPORTANT DIFFERENTIALS THEN USE TRANSITIONS TO PAST HISTORY AND FAMILY HISTORY etc. USE TRANSITION FOR PHYSICAL EXAMINATION WASH YOUR HANDS TELL THEM WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO AND ASK PERMISSION BY SAYING IS THAT OK MR............. THEN SAY I NEED TO UNTIE UR GOWN FOR....... .....IS THAT OK ..... HELP THEM SIT AND LIE DOWN , AND , ALWAYS ASK IF THEY ARE COMFORTABLE . AFTER EXAMINATION , SAY THANKS FOR YOUR COOPERATION . HELP THEM TO SIT TIE THE GOWN BACK TELL THEM THE SUMMARY OF HISTORY AND EXAMINATION TELL THEM UR DEFFERENTIALS IN LAYMAN TERMS TELL THEM THE INVESTIGATIONS YOU ARE GOING TO ORDER AGAIN IN LAYMAN TERMS , IF U ARE USING MEDICAL TERMS LIKE COLONOSCOPY OR ULTRASOUND EXPLAIN WHAT IT MEANS BEFORE THEY ASK . THEN ASK IF THEY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS AND ANSWER THEM , PATIENT MIGHT ASK THE QUESTION DURING HISTORY OR EXAMINATION , ANSWER IT AT THAT TIME. THEN SAY WE WILL MEET AGAIN , NICE TO MEET YOU SHAKE HANDS ...... AND LEAVE THE ROOM WRITE YOUR PATIENT NOTE. EVEN IF U MESSED A CASE DURING EXAM , JUST FORGET IT AND MORE TO NEXT CASE AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED BCOZ THAT HAPPENS WITH EVERYBODY HEHE , I ACTUALLY MESSED MY FIRST CASE , DIDN'T EVEN GET THE RIGHT DIAGNOSIS RIGHT , BUT PASSED . BEST OF LUCK TO ALL OF YOU . ANY QUESTIONS I AM HERE TO ANSWER .

A question for you guys. What do you think of the patient notes of FA? They are hopelessly long for me. I was wondering since drkhuls said FA is the best. Did you have enough time to write PN?Was yours similar as FA's?I remember people say lots cases are coming from FA.Thanks a lot

the patient notes in FA is too long.. i agree... and the time/space constraints in the exam note makes it tougher too.... u really need to cut down and write only relevant positive and negative findings... i did struggle to cut down in the exam...so try and practise witing short but relevant histories..!!

yeah , you are right the space in there is less than what we want , so thats why don't ignore it and do practice writing patient notes . well i don't need to answer as ganesha already answered jyn's question , thanks
