hello every one,
i took my exam yesterday and i would like to share my little exp with you.
i studied for this exam for 3 months.
my resources:
first read:
Kaplan Lecture Notes + C. Fisher DVDs only. ( i was recommended to see surgey n obs gyne as well but due to my sheer laziness and lack of time @ hands i decided not to go through them ) i also did the NMS qbank with my first read scoring around 70-80% i would highly recommend NMS qbank to everybody. Qbook: all specialities + first 2 blocks of IM. excellent resource @ start.
my first read with these resources was around 1 and half months.
then came in the UW. I wanted to do another revision with UW but i guess it was not possible. I finished UW ----- timed -- unused --- random -- all specialities in total mix mode ---- making blocks of 46 questions/block. did 2-3 blocks daily and made extensive notes. wrote my notes on the kaplan LNs. my score @ the end of UW was 60%. i think it was fair considering my only one read of kaplan prior to it.
after my UW i started Kaplan the sec read finished it in 15 days ( it was quick eh? ) did secrets and b&w along with it. only selected topics.
wrote NBME 2. was slightly disappointed with results since there was a decline from the previous NBME that i wrote. ( but i would attribute this to repeated power and internet failure which got me frusted and i think it reflected on my score) .......... ( reaction formation ? )
I did paeds and gyne obs over again since they were my weaker subjects in nbme
2 days before the big day i went to islamabad, had a room booked for my self in an army mess.
day before exam: i got up @ 5 in the morning the alarm was set for 7 but some how when i got up earlier could not sleep again so decided to start my last notes revision. studied the whole day all i could find. notes hy stuff that i wanted to review before going into exam etc. after dinner went out for a walk and slept @ 10.
Day of exam: again got up at 5 am. my biological clock was tuned to this time i guess. tried hard to convince myself that the exam is extensive and i need good rest but couldnt sleep. so again i picked up books and started reading of what was left .
took 2 tabs of propanolol with breakfast and headed to the center. the exam started @ 8:45 am.
first block i was enjoying it, ohh finally all that hardwork that i had put in was showing. but ohhh to my surprise i was left with only 5 mins and i had 10 mcqs left? damn now what. i started rushing through the block and in the end " missed " 3 question.
took a break and went to the washroom, washed my face and talked to my self for a while. what the heck man ! i shouldnt let it go like that. but its all right no worries i still have 7 more blocks to improve take the pill ( proponolol ) and chill. lol
so i started the sec block but i again i failed to meet the deadline and had to rush through the last 3-4 questions and this continoued for the rest of exam .
in my exam i have failed to answer 3-4 questions and did not read and went on to answer some 5-6 questions.
difficulty level of the exam was slighlty tougher than UW. may be there are too many incorporated test questions that make the exam look more difficult, but at the same time i believe many concepts were straight from UW. i was actually surprised to see many similar questions from UW.
the 8 hour long journey ended with mixed feelings. i thought i have failed, went out and started calling all my friends and they reassured my it happens and there is nothing to worry. but i cant seem to forgive my self for missing those 4 questions in the first block. time wil tell how i have performed but right now im relaxed and praying that i get any thing above 89 ( my step 1 score) .
GL guys . its doable. and i actually enjoyed the quality of questions compared to freaky out of the world step 1 questions.

salam, moslem doc. yes indeed i got many of step1 questions. asking abt disease mech.etc but with common sense i think you dont need step 1 knowledge to do them.
doing step 1 before step 2 makes things easier BUT i think it wont really matter if you are a fresh graduate, rather writing step2 soon after your final yr exams would help.

Congratulations buddy for getting the exam done and all the best for a high score. I had the same feeling after step 1 and ended up with a good score. Just relax, and let our mind bussy with some other staff. There is life after the exams...

yeah i got my life back. i went out to the market. everything looks changed.  i felt like as if i have missed many good things n years in life. i hope to see a positive result

I have the same time issue in CK. Time runs out really fast, when you're trying to figure out which out of this pile of info thrown at ya is relevant and which is useless.
Anyway, keep the faith till your score!
