Kaplan Qbank USMLE

First of all I want to thank whoever created this website. I have big issues with anxiety and every day during my study I had these panic attacks, that were relieved only by reading the experiences posted in here. That helped me convince myself that I was right on track. I hope my experience can benefit other students as well.

I'm an IMG graduated last year. I studied for 9 months, but only during the last 4, I forced myself to a schedule of 14 hours per day. I used:

1. Kaplan books
2. Kaplan tapes, only for 2 or 3 specific subjects that were difficult for me to understand
3. Goljan pathology notes (a must!)
4. Goljan audio tapes (another must!)
5. Kaplan Qbank
6. First Aid (two weeks before the exam, excellent for mnemonics)

I covered all subjects, but I spent most time (2 months) on pathology.

My scores pre-exam:
1. USMLE CD: 99, 95, 92
2. Kaplan QBank: average 71%, from 64% to 84%, very fluctuating
3. Wikitestprep 96%

I know everyone is in love with USMLEworld, I just found about it late in my study but I can tell from my experience that Qbank was very useful, I nailed some very important concepts of the exam using it.

I had like 5 exact questions as the ones in wikitestprep, in fact, I think this is the product most similar to the exam (even more than the CD questions), it helped me a lot.

During the exam I kept telling myself how great I was doing to avoid anxiety and how I was really in control of the questions, otherwise I would have freaked out and leave right at that moment. Overall, I really enjoyed it and found it very friendly for the student. Keep in mind that I had lots of neuro and vascular questions, which I love.

I hope this might help. Good luck and find good ways to relieve anxiety! that was my main problem.

Congratulations sucralfate! That is an incredible score and I'm sure a well earned one.

You mentioned you used the Goljan notes for pathology and I was wondering which ones are you referring to and there are several versions of it like the rapid review and the lecture handouts.

And I was wondering - like girldoc - what you meant by wikitestprep? Do you mean just surfing wikipedia?

Thanks and all the best in step 2!!

Thanks all!

Girldoc and saywhat, wikitestprep is a question bank made by students that already took the exam. It's not very long, I think they have 350 questions but each very good. It's also free, I used it when Kaplan Qbank was completed.

Sergey, I used Kaplan LN for all subjects, 2006. The only extra books I used were Goljan for pathology and FA for a quick general review 2 weeks before exam

saywhat, I used Goljan Pathology Rapid Review 2006, though it's not that rapid! I couldn't finish it all but every word was important.

Again thanks all! I'll start studying for part 2 tomorrow. I'm still figuring out if I should use USMLEworld this time, just found out it's cheaper!

Sucralfate, congrats for the wonderful score..
No second thought. Take UW before anything else. You'll feel the difference.
