tough one, my guess is vancomycin, as it is only restricted in the GI tract and can be used to treat C diff, a 'potentially' serious systemic infection. i cannot predict eh bioavailability of other drugs at all!

I think the key words to this question is oral bioavailibility. All the others have very limited if not poor oral bioavailibility for systemic infections making cipro a great choice.

vanco if given orally would be great to kill the bacterias in the colon ONLY it doesnt get absorbed at all!!!.....thats why it would kill clostridium difficile.....it wont get absorbed at all......here we need a drug for systemic infection so we cant choose vancomycin.....cipro is the ans

None of the drugs except Ciprofloxacin has good oral bioavailabilty, i mean they are absolutely not absorbed from the GI. if we have to use these drugs, we must adminiter them parenterally. since we have to treat a potentially serious "systemic" illness, that means "orally" given drug must be absorbed from GI and act systemically. Cipro is the only drug thats absorbed form GI among these. Simple!

B is the only drug out of the rest which is given orally...the only available route for vancomycin, gentamicin, amphotericin and polymixin is iv...so only one with predictable oral bioavailabilty wud be cipro.

hottie99 wrote: but wat do u mean by bioavailablity then? im confused... thx tiff! Bioavailability is the rate that the drug enters the systemic system.

B bio availability is the amount of drug reaching the circulation in unchanged form
