How is that possible when HPV is the most common sexually transmitted disease? Also HPV lesions are supposed to be painless. The explanation provided doesn't explain why HPV is incorrect. It only states that HPV is venereal warts that can become cancer, but not why it's wrong.

tiff, google condyloma accumulata, u will find big big big lesions. i bet that would cause some feelings, if not pure discomforts or pain.

The question asks about visible lesions with no pain. Genital warts are visible painless papules. I would think that they're more visible than a chancre. So I did google it. This is from the cdc website. "The warts are usually painless and not a serious problem." http://www.cdc.gov/STD/hpv/the-facts/default.htm HPV is also the most common STD. This also from cdc website. http://www.cdc.gov/STD/HPV/common-downloads.htm The only loophole I could think of to justify that this is incorrect is that even though they are usually smaller in size, they do have the propensity to be much larger and the larger they are I guess the more bothersome. But they're supposed to be painless growths. "They can be yellow, pink, or light brown in color, and only rarely are painful or uncomfortable." http://healthresources.caremark.com/topic/topic10... In the minority of cases, lesions of treponema can also cause pain and discomfort, but we always go with what's most common right? And what's most common is that genital warts are usually small, visible, painless and also happen to be the most common STD.

So for this I have to strongly disagree. This is just my take on it in attempt to find clarity. raised eyebrow Any arguments gladly welcomed.

i agree with u tiff, when i first read question i just said to myself, he has hpv, then i read the answer and wasn't sold on it, and still am not.. not all answers are always solid u know, they didnt' definitely rule out hpv with their reasoning, so it's ok, u undersand wh u think that and they have explained why they (the question writer im saying) thought syphillis, when i thought the syph was a lot less in numbers than hpv... that's just wat i think.. hey i sent u an im tiff, check it out, so u dont think ur oing banans, hehe.. u are not!! sticking out tongue

Hello Tiff,

I must admit , reading the question again, that is poorly written , as well myself picked up HPV for the answer, which made me think. The question states '' no pain and discomfort'', and from what I know, and remember the clinical cases of condiloma acuminata, they eventually cause discomfort, even itching due to moist environment, end they don't resolve them self, can be palpated in anal area, usually grow in size as time goes on ( can you picture it rubbing it between the buttocks cheeks? The size itself must cause some discomfort . )Compare to the syphilis chancre, which usually goes unnoticed in invisible/ even visible body areas, and later on spontaneously resolve. Just wanted to post it here, so we can be ready for anything in real exam . smiling face

Good Girl

Actually many of the cases do spontaneously resolve. First off, thanks for the question. It's great to be introduced to all sorts of questions. But this is what I've learned. Yes...condyloma accuminata does occur, but they usually are not large as I've stated above and provided links. It has always remained consistent from what I've alwyas learned that the very large warts that present that might be bothersome are not the majority of cases. We always see those wost case pictures of course. Of course some that is left untreated may progress to size. But usually the warts are small and painless.

Like I said, this is just really my take on it. But it's good to post these types of questions. smiling face
