Hi frnds..I wish u r doing well. Ofcourse Kaplan Notes are considered the gold standard for basic prep used by most of usmlers."the BIBLE of usmle",Some say. But It is frequently said among ppl especially those who gave the test that one has to add to kaplan so as to get high scores.. I`m starting with UW these days and noticed that there r actually some defects in Kaplan notes at least in IM which I`m doing now...Ofcourse I dont know if these deficient topics are high yield for the test or not;but being mentioned in a site like UW makes it worth studying. Anyway, what I will do is to write down topics tested on UW but not mentioned in Kaplan lecture notes. I heartly wish If u all share with ur practice and experience. Very soon I`ll start to post these stuff starting with Rheumatology and skeletomuscular diseases. Waiting for ur participation frnds..it is not my own topic ;but just an idea to help each other ...thx

Let me start with Rheumatology...These data are not present in Kaplan lecture notes at least in rheumatology section of IM;I`m not sure if they are mentioned elsewhere in kaplan... **Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy: -syndrome of pain and swelling associated with vasomotor instability e.g. profuse sweating. -Caused mailnly by: injury -more common in :hands and usually associated with shoulder stiffness -Diagnosis: x ray(ostopenia)....Bone scan(increased uptake) -Treatment:Physical therapy......Prednisone is indicated in resistant cases. **Whipple`s Disease: -Caused by :Trophyrema Whppelii bacteria -Presents with: Diarrhea, abdominal pain, arthralgia and weight loss -Diagnosis:small intesetine biposy will show villous atrophy and periodic acid-schiff positive deposits in lamona propria **Relapsing polychondritis: -Idiopathic disorder characterized by cartilagenous strucures and other organs -Ear is the most frequent site to be affected producing inflammation of the auricle -arthralgias and red eye are frequently present **De Quervain`s Disease: Mentioned in surgery lecture notes under the topic(common hand problems) **Anserine bursitis: -Cause:trauma to the knee -Clinical picture:medial knee pain&tenderness just below the joint line -Distinguished from medial collateral ligament injury by the valgus stress test being negative -Distinguished from prepatellar bursitis by lack of other joint complaints like redness, warmth and swelling. -X ray of knee is normal **Lumbar Strain -Cause:Lifting a heavy object -C/P:Back pain with no radicular signs -Treatment:Conservative N.B.proper patient education is important to prevent recurrence of such injury: 1-Regular exercise to strenghthen the supporting muscles including the abdominal ones . 2-proper sleep position with avoiding sleeping on the stomach 3-Avoid exercises with repetitive twisting and bending . 4-bend at the knee not at the waist . 5-warm up exercises before sporting activities. I`ll stop here and continue later on insha2llah. Wishing everyone to share by his experience Good Luck

Hey..I`m using Kaplan notes 2006-2007 edition..I know that a newer one has come up and I hear it`s better than the older. Do u think IM of kaplan 2006-2007 is enough?
