Getting a categorical should be harder to get.. I think here should be someone out there that made it through the scramble. AT LEAST ONE! Scramble is a pain in the ass and a complete waste of time, but there are two choices people who dont match can make at that time. Give their best shot during the scramble with a 99% chances of not getting anything or remain the way they are, unemployed for one year. Or do nothing with a 100% chance of remaining unemployed... So if you ask me, which option would I take, the scramble of course! With 99% chance I will remain the same, without a job and lots of debt. At least by doing so, I will put myself "at risk" of getting a job and pay my bills.. I dont want anyone to go through this miserable process, BUT if you have no other choice. Why not give it a shot? You might be one of the lucky people who gets something categorical or preliminary...

I am an IMG, 10 year plus grad, who succesfully scrambled with H1 visa. I posted my experience in the forum too. I got my attending with whom I did observership to call the program director with scramble postion open on my behalf and also had very good LORs from local university which was not enough for me to get me Ophthalmology residency position, but got me in to Family Practice residency. I also drove to the place right away as it was only two hours away and was luckily was offered a spot interview. Scramble was a nightmare, but not scrambling would have been worse! I wish one of the forum leaders could get together all the information on scramble and make it into one thread for easy reference.

scramble is tough and crazy but at least you have a chance to get a position, specially if that is your LUCKY day.

if i recall correctly; UCLA had 8 spots avlbl in cat IM the morning of scramble day and most of'm were gone in the 1st few hours!! out of 107 spots in IM more than half disappeared by next morning!!how could this be possible??did programs sent out the iv's and did the iv's middle of the nite??? one theory i've heard is that applicants do go to the hospitals with the history of unmatched seats that morning..may be bbb could shed some lite on this.
