Hi all, Just back from the US Consulate in Mumbai after getting my H1B visa stamped. The interview isn't actually an interview at all. Its just a big waste of time considering the long waiting times we have at the Mumbai Consulate. I wasn't asked for any document by the consular officer (Form I-797 is collected from you at the finger-printing window). And all I told her was that I will be working as a resident in Internal Medicine. That's it... no other questions. Good luck to you all (actually even that isn't required) Enjoy your interview! P.S.: Just make sure you get your original I-797 back from the officer before you leave. We would need to produce that at the port of entry when entering the US.

Yup, in Mumbai we are allowed to collect our passport across the counter the same evening. I am not permitted to travel until June 21 (10 days before my petition start date).

I had my visa interview today. Infact it was NOT an interview but it was just showing up at us embassy. The counseler only asked me two questions, when did u visit USA before and why? and where will you be doing your residency? and then she accepted my application. but I will get my passport in few weeks time thats it. I am still surprised.

congrats insha and kairavshah! I had a question...there are a list of supporting documents like a pdf questionaire (for applicants planning to engage in scientific study) , list of all publications, and written description explaining past and future research..... http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov/nivhlovisas.html http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov/hitechbs.html did u fill these out? They ask rather vague questions...are they asked for at the consulate? Thanks so much!

they emailed me all my documents and i posted it back as they needed signatures. The only documents i signed was a letter of intent and then this application...none that said contract...but i think one of those applications must have been the equivalent...u should talk to ur prog co-ordinator....all the best...and please if u find out anything about those supporting documents i mentioned above and if we need to fill them do let me know...

nopes mukho and motorola: None of these forms that you're talking about. I just had to fill in DS156 and DS157. Thats it. Nothing too difficult or great either. And yes, on H1B, we can't enter the country more than 10 days prior the petition start date. My visa clearly states that "Not valid for travel until June 21".

I have a colleague who went to the Chennai consulate. No issues with him too. I doubt if Delhi would have any special requirements.

hi Mukho / Kairavshah and others, They actually sent the documents which included my contract to different address . As the cordinator was on leave now they will send it to me in a weeks time . Is it possible to receive the contract and other forms via email / fax . After sisgning are we supposed to send it to the program or attorney . Have you hired your own attorney . Please let me know in short what is the next step after signing and sending the contract . how time will it take fro premium processing. Thank you guys

thanks kairavshah...i am hoping I wont have to fill any of this either smartboy...i dont see why u are having to worry with all these details...ur program should take care of these, just keep in touch with them...but from what I think, as i received all my documents by email i guess these documents could be emailed to u (if those documents are available at ur prog in such a format and doesnt require some signature from them b4 u fill them). I havent got any attorney and my program has a immigration officer there working on all IMG visas, i am sure ur program will have similar arrangements...premium processing takes a 1000 dollars extra and completes the processing within 15 days...many programs dont pay for this processing, some do and others share the cost....talk to ur program about it.... thru whatever experience i have till now it seems these aspects are dependent on individual programs .....all the best, hopefully we all will soon get all this sorted out

at least in India, u need the I797 before u complete the application process online and get to apply for interview date....u could fill the DS forms and they will save it for 7 days but u will need to complete the petition info form too within that time o/w ur DS forms will be deleted and u will have to fill it again...
