Were you sitting or standing during your CS exam? If you sit, do you have your eye level at the eye level of the patien? A friend of mine suggested that standing will save some time? What do you think?

Unless it's an emergency case in which the patient is in extreme pain (and I had one case), you probably should sit down to appear to the patient that you are there to listen to them as how they feel about you definitely count. Standing up might be easier to switch to examing mode but I couldn't imagine it would save that much time in contrast to the real difference sitting down would make so definitely would recommend sitting down to talk to patients. Hope that helps And good luck on your exam. It'll be alright!

How high are the chairs that we are provided? I'm small-built, and I wouldn't like to look dimunitive, or crane upward to look in to the SP's eyes. Thanks.

not too high, just like a regular stool you would find in clinic. The patient is already sitting on the exam table so you won't be eye to eye with them. As far as feeling dimunitive to the patient if you are sitting too low, I don't think you should (I'm also pretty petite ) because you might not realized it but you are the one who has the white coat on and usually it is the patient who feels intimidated and you want to help them feel comfortable so don't worry about it. Walk tall and smile (But if it is a concern then I'd suggest pushing the sitting stool a little farther from the examining table and lean forward to listen to them, that way you are not right underneath yet still attentive) Good luck.

chairs are regular ones, not taller ones. standing might save you several seconds. good luck.

A white coat intimidates the patient? It's the CS exam, and the SP is definitely in charge of my heart rate! Btw, I always thought sitting made sense when patient comes in to your room, but it looks better when doctor stands in the examination room. I get this inferance from the very-reliable source of info called 'TV Shows'!!

I personally did sit for most cases. It was more comfortable for both sides. And you won't forget to drape the patient.

I used to sit only when my patients were lain on back... I did not feel comfortable to hang over them... Otherwise, staying is more practical...
