1. DIC-Is it more common in female? or is it equally common in both male and female?

2. Ticlopidine inhibit ADP enhanced GP IIb-IIIa expression, thereby inhibit fibrinogen and platelet aggregation. Then how it causes endothelial damage? (table 14-2, RR goljan, page 266, TTP)

3. what happen in platelet count in liver disease? laboratory finding is similar like DIC in following:

a. increased PT and PTT

b. Increased FDP and D-dimer

c. Increased bleeding time. (page 271, RRgoljan)

In DIC, platelet count is decreased. so, if both lab finding is same, we have to differentiate from history, right?

I would appreciate if someone answer number 1 question only. Thanks.

Ans to q.1

well, as far i know, there is no male or female prepondrence of DIC, but infact, the most common cause of DIC is obstetric complications in females, accounting for more than 50% cases of DIC. this is due to release of thromboplastins from placenta, dead retained foetus or amniotic fluid embolism.

hope this helps!
