Hi everyone.
Could someone, esp someone who has matched already/at least done some Pediatric USCE please share their impressions about American moms. Are they hard to handle, hard to please, finicky, ........etc
I don't mean offend to anyone, I ask this qn coz all I know is what I've seen on TV [and we all can guess how representative that is!]

seemed like average moms to me...concerned, bit teary, better read many...there are some social issues which are more predominant there...like teenage moms without social support, single mothers, lack of insurance, drug abuse...similar to issues in many developing countries but different packaging...but all in all they are as open to advice as moms here and some are as uninterested as many moms i have seen in my home country are...but then i was just an observer

Thanks, mukho. Do new residents get any training to deal with the counselling reqd to handle the sensitive cases? Even if the social worker deals with most of that, the doctor certainly needs to display empathy and tact.

well, i'll know for sure in july but from what i heard, not really...u basically learn from seniors and try to not screw up before that...u r taught HIPPA regulations and basic medicolegal issues but not just counselling skills
