can anyone tell how to counsel for depression case
and sickle cell disease case with chest pain

I think you can tell the patient for ex { Depression is a common disease it is caused by chemical imbalance in your brain ,there are medications available to treat depression along side with councelling ,I can refer you to a therapist to start you on that is that ok with you.}
please correct me if I'm wrong

i think this wud be inappropriate to say...
first he needs to talk to someone...
so i wud say"mr.xyz i know u are in a difficult time...u are sad...but as a friend and ur concerned physician i wud like to advice u wud u like to talk to someone abt ur feelings...this wud relieve ur problem..."if he says yes"you shud say"we hav various counsellors and support groups attached to our hospital tht helps u to come out of these difficult situations..."
i think first he needs to pour his heart out only then we can say abt treatment things...
this is wat i think

thanks for the responce Angel but i also think that what you mentioned applies to showing sympathy to the patient c/o and that is something you say right after the CC , something like Mr XYZ I understand that you are feeling sad and i want you to know that I'm here to help you . Then you proceed with hx at the end of the ecounter is when you councell and that when my previuos statement come to play .
What do you think is right this way or

Agree with laly,
u show empathy /sympathy/dramapathy  during the history taking.When the SP IS NOT WILLING TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS(MOST OF THE TIME THE SCENARIO WILL BE A PATIENT NOT HAVING ANY EYECONTACT WITH THE doc ,LOOKING DOWN N DULL),THEN U SAY,Mr XYZ...U SEEM TO BE FEELING DOWN,I UNDERS TAND U R GOING THRU A TOUGH TIME,WUD U LIKE 2 SHARE WITH ME ABT IT,I WUD LIKE 2 HELP U ,THEN u ask SIGEMCAPS/FACESLIPS,

IF PATIENT IS SEEMING OK,U ASK ,HOW IS UR MOOD LIKE nowadays,(if SP seems happy and then when asked abt mood he says,'ya....i feel down a little bit' ,SP is SUPPOSED 2 ACT LIKE FEELIN DOWN ,then i dont think we need to put on bigtime drama,small drama wud suffice,
In the counselling part,U say,
U told me dat u r feelin down ,n( sigemcaps (2 or 3)summarise n say ,U seem 2 have THE DIAGNOSIS of depression .Depression is nothing but only a chemical imbalance in the brain,fortunately we have medications for it,but these medications work best when combined with some kind of counselling,WUD U LIKE 2 MEET WITH WITH OUR COUNSELLER,i WUD GET U iNTOUCH WITH HIM IF U R INTERESTED? ... I want 2 assure u again ,Mr XYZEE....dat i am always avalable 2 offer all my support n help 2u whenever u need, ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS?

Mr ABC..,u TOLD ME DAT U HAVE SICKLE CELL ANEMIA WHICH was diagnosed -- yrs ago ,In sickle cell anemia,the vessels may get blocked and dis can cause pain, serious infections, and organ damage.With good care ,many people live productive lives,
[font color="#0000ff"]It is extremely important dat u take good care of urself,avoid stress,avoid extremes of cold n heat,drink plenty of fluids everyday(maintain good hydartion),avoid amoking and alcohol,get regular vaccinations ,flu shot etc 2 avoid infections and contact ur doctor immediately whenever u have fever/pain/become pale/any other complaints.I am always available here 2 help u n supprt u whenever u need.any questions?[/font]

hey angel23,the counselling 4 forgetfulness n confusion is given very nicely in FA, any ways lemme try what i remember
[font color="#993366"]Mr XYZ,U TOLD ME u have a problem remembering things /U HAVE TOLD ME DAT UR DAUGHTER/SON IS CONCERNED abt ur forgetfulness since ----- days n u also told me dat .....u have DM/HTN/THYROID/DEPRESSION/NPH /SDH symptoms.There cud be a number of causes 4 ur problem,it cud be Alzheimers/OR IT CUD BE DUE 2 DM/HTN/THYROID/DEPRESION.we will have 2 do afew tests like....[/font]
then u say,iwud like 2ask ur permission 2 speak with ur family members,they can help me with the dagnosis n i can answer their queries,if any.I wud also like U n ur FAMILY members 2 speak with our social worker who will assess ur home situation n safety .i WILL ALWAYS BE IN CONSTANT touch with u n ur family 2 offer my support n help,any questions 4 me.?
