difference between alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence?

It's probably the same as substance abuse/dependence... look in FA for last one

In essense, it pretty much explains itself. Alcohol abuse - the person abuses alcohol. The y get intoxicated and is usually determined by their blood alcohol level which is usually above 80 mg/dL. The person will have impaired judgement and coordination, ataxic gait, poor balance, and if severe cases lethargy, coma, and respiratory depression.

In alcohol dependence, the person is dependent on alcohol. Meaning...Becuase their body is dependent on it, they will experience withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, anxiety, tremor, tachycardia, hypertension seizures, hallucinations, delirium, fever, anorexia, and DTs (delirium tremens) Because there is a bodily dependence, withdrawal symptoms can surface as soon as 6 hours since the last drink. If a person is dependent on alcohol then they are most likely abusing it.
