Kaplan Qbank USMLE

Hey, is it just me? Or are the UW questions hard and confusing and some of them seem very evil. I'm averaging like a 59% I feel very discouraged. Is this normal? Are they supposed to be hard?

Don't feel discouraged. UW is the hardest Qbank for CK but the most recommended BTW 59% is not a bad score. You will notice that there is a lot of fluctuation in your scores based on your weak or strong areas.
Don't forget that UW is a learning tool rather than a self assessment test. I've done UW, kaplan Qbank and Qbook and I wish I've done it in the opposite order, first Qbook, then kaplan Qbank and at the end UW in a random, timed mode.
Good luck to you.

Thanks, makes me feel a little better. I have done only about 150 questions. I'm hopping to get better at it as it goes along. I don't think I'll have time for q bank because my test is at the end of next month. This is why I went with UW, because people say that it is a better learning tool.

You're welcome and i agree about UW as a better learning tool and similar format to real exam.
Good luck

Hi arivero,

i also feel exactly same like u. feels very depressed with such low scores, i feel very dumb after all the reading. I used up only 11% of UW and my cumulative is low- 50. in some tests i scored 60-64 but most of it is in the 50s and i even got a 40 in two tests. so it depends on our relative weak and strong areas, but still i wish if i did this earlier in the prep so that i dont have to be this depressed nw...my exam is on jun 4th. appro 1and 1/2 months from nw.

im doing it subjectwise timed. IM is at hand. Hw about u and when is ur exam? Good luck to us.

My test is at the end of May. I still suck at USMLE World. I'm not even doing it timed, but I try to finish 46 questions in about one hour. Usually I go over like 5-7 minutes, but it is because I stay thinking about the questions that I'm probably not going to get right anyways because the questions are so vague. I'm trying to not worry too much and just learn from my mistakes. I think I have to learn more on how to approach the questions because I realized that in some of the questions they don't give you any buzz words or pathognomonic details about a disease that help you answer the questions quickly. I think you have to read the question and then look at the answers and just start eliminating them by saying to yourself ' well this answer or that answer cant be it because the question stem doesn't give you the right signs and symptoms for it", then you are usually left with like 2 potential answers if you are lucky. Again, eliminate the the one that can't be it and your left with the answer. I hope this is not confusing.
I'm just going to keep chugging along. I'll tell you guys if I'm improving. I still have like 1 month left to take the test. Good Luck

Arivero, don't think about UW score for predicting your score in real test. It's an excellent preparation tool and use it that way only. Don't get distracted by average scores ( Yours is not bad BTW. check exam score thread.people with scores in late50s and early60s have also done really well). Instead, concentrate on the material presented in the Qs and the explanations. If you're really learning from the explanations, your score will improve (don't expect it to improve by >5%). Don't loose confidence at this point of prep. Good luck for the prep and the test. You'll do well..smiling face
