Hi all !! I am in real dilemma. Pl help. My situation : I am in 3rd MBBS Part I (still 1 and half years remaining to complete MBBS) in India. I have relatively forgotten the Step 1 included subjects (anat, physio, biochem, patho, pharmac, etc). So my sir told me that once u enter inetrnship (after MBBS), i will be fresh with step 2 subjects, so i should go for USMLE step 2 CK first and then USMLE step 1. Pl guide me. Awaiting for your reply. Cheers, indsha008

i strongly advice step 1 before step 2ck. this is because there is a lot of overlap in the two steps. u can not solve many so called basic sciences questions(Step 1) without clinical knowledge and vice versa. so at the end of your MBBS when u will be fresh with clinical knowledge u should study for step 1 and take that. If you take step 2ck first u wont be able to solve some questions which will need basic science knowledge (things as simple as antibiotic of choice, drug side effects and interactions, simple microbiology etc) After step 1 u should study for step 2ck and still u will have knowledge of both fields and do well in step 2 ck too. i did it the other way. i did 2ck before step. although i fared well in both i dont advice anyone to do it because having done both i think 1 followed by 2ck is a better idea.

I agree w/ motrola 100% Studying for the step 2, i'm using the knowledge I gained from step 1. Even I noticed in UWorld for step 2 they put up a couple of questions they took from Step 1.

i did it opposite, and personally i just think whichever exam u study first is going to take longer, whether u study step 1 (then u'll have to read up on clinical cases since a lot of step 1 is being asked in clinical forms and there is some direct step 2 quest on step 1, which i found easy since i had done step 2 already) and the same goes for opposite, step 2 does have step 1 material on it as well, but while study step 2, u'd be going over the step 1 materials and look up things so that it makes sense, u have to figure out wat works for u best, and go with that.. everyone's going to have an opinion.. for me, step 1 material was sooo boring, that i didnt know where to start so started with step 2 bc at least i could read it.. good luck either way!
