hi
i have step 1 exam in 40 days - an old IMG
am working full time too
what are essential in preparation.
my guess is first aid and UW
any thing else any one else might add

There are no shortcuts dear friend. The USMLE STEP 1examination as I understand, requires thorough understanding of the basic medical sciences. Questions from USMLE World, Kaplan Qbank and other question data bases are helpful only to the extent that these compliment the understanding and learning process. Personally I find that discussing questions posted on the many USMLE related internet forums is helpful too.

Take NBME. If you dont do well, or even worse, if you dont pass, Do NOT take the exam.
On the other hand, If you do very well on it, study what ever you want.
Do not take any risks.

SHORT CUT EH???!!! Now dont we all need that fopr this exam???? A short cut that works and gives us a 99!! I WISH.
Listen.....dont take risk with this exam. There are people who study on and on 6-7 months and still fail this test ....and then they have worry about the consequences of taking it the second time, how it affects your application/match etc. Why fall into that trap intentionally? If you are taking this test.....TAKE YOUR TIME to STUDY FOR IT enough to ace the exam. Otherwise don't take this exam. PERIOD. Its not a game. Many people like myself have detached ourself from this world and even forgotten that we exist so that we can devote ourself 100% to this exam for a good 3-6 months to score high! Why do you think we are doing that?? If there was a short cut wouldnt we all love to take it .....WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF USMLE AND GET STARTED AND HIT THE LONG ROAD. GOOD LUCK.

I just checked that you are an OLD IMG......Please sir....Please POSTPONE your exam. It will be best for you. You really need to get above 90s if you are an IMG. Dont take it now. Study first for a couple of months. Dont rush.

hi was hoping tht i will be able to get around 90 percentile
and then maybe with a green card and experience in uk get a job?
only problem may be me being an old graduate of 2001.

no shortcuts buddy!!!! i was in a similar illusion, and finally for good i realized thats impossible. take NBME as p499 said. that will give you an estimate of your position and can give you a starting point from where you can chalk out a plan.

 there is no shortcut for hard work .....i totally and 100% agree with royaldoc99 that do not risk your score cuz of short amount of time limit you have . just prepare well and remember we are in profession of medicine and here no shortcuts applies cuz when the patient will come to you to get treated you wont be able to use shortcuts on him cuz if you will then he will die .....not mocking or anything but trying to tell you that dont look for any shortcuts cuz there are none !!!
