Hi, friends, I have some questions about the drug names when we write the case questions in step3.
--I heard that as long as you can spell out the first FOUR letters of the drug name, you will get the hint for the drug, is it true for the exam? Does this mean as long as we can spell the first four letters correctly, we will find the drug in the list?
--should we use the generic name or pharmacology name of the drugs, or either one is ok? for example, for ADHD, should we write modafinil or Provigil or both ok?
--Do we need remember the dosage and route of the drug? or just remember something like P.O. tid is good?
--BTW, I have not begun the Q-bank yet, but I heard that the surface of UW is somewhat different from the real exam for case questions, if so, what's the best Q-bank or software for the exam preparation?

^As for the drugs, as far as I know we just indicate the route and frequency.

I will try to answer your questions.
The software does recognize a lot of drugs= both generic and brand names. to be sure about certaind drugs, get the prep cd they send you and practice as much as you can, typing every order you can think of to see how it works. That's how I did it. It is true that none of the online CCS preps resembles the software in the real exam but they are still very, very helpful. I used UW for ccs and just typed the orders into the prep cd (although in the prep cd the patient scanario is completely diffrent), just to get used to the scheme and to have a plan for every major case. You do NOT need to know DOSE and FREQURNCY(there are only 2 options- one time or continuous), but you indicate route (po, iv, im...) also you cannot give meds prn (as needed) - there is no option for that in the software.
It's easier than it sounds. Just stay focused and do as many cases as you can, it will build up your confudence. Good luck!!!

I just checked my UW. It says 'Order some medications for PRN like acetaminophen'.

yes, UW has that, but trust me it's not available in the real software. When you get the CD, it's also mentioned in the tutorial, just read it

typing three letters will bring up all possible orders starting with those 3 letter including drugs and other orders.
