Hi everyone! I am getting ready to start my step 1 prep.....
feel free to comment or offer any ideas to this 3 month studying plan....
aiming for 99/more than 245.....
scheduled block....aug/sept/oct....aiming for end of aug
going to start prep for step 1 on jun 1st......i was gonna follow 6 week kaplan course's schedule.....
so i was gonna read the books i have per class (mostly only kaplan except for like behv science, anat, neuroanat, histo, mol bio for which ill b using high yield and also mmrs for micro)....and for patho...goljan....
so ill do about 11hrs of readin a day...and than do 50ques a day from usmle world...and than go over that for 2hrs and take notes in first aid.....
keep doin that for 6 weeks per kaplan's schedule....and than take nbme and see where im at......and than from mid july to mid aug.....review everything again.....but this time do qbank questions every night from 50-100 or more as long as i finish all of qbank by mid aug....and than take nbme again to see how much i improved...and see where i stand....
if im in good position than....cram first aid for 2 weeks and take it in end of aug....does it sound legit? please comment thanks

hi all,
i am new here IMG planning to giv exam preferrably in dec.
books i hav got are:
kaplan 7books
goljan pathology RR
brs behavioural sciences,physiology
high yield histlogy,gross anatomy,patho,neuroanatomy,embryo
first aid
?pretests
once i finish reading wanna take UW
i don`t have kaplan dvd.
do any one can post them or let me know how to get them,also let me kno if those very essential.
i finished 1st reading micro and pharmc
now into anatomy and goljan rr
i am a working mom so can spare 5to 6 hrs of study
plz advise abt study materials i chose ,needs any addition or deletion
i am not sure i can make it in dec.
is there any specific months good for giving kaplan exam
how many reads are needed to get 95+
wish all my other friends best of luck for their steps

Where I'm at: Finishing my first run-through of UW on Sunday; Read FA and Step up twice; taken 3 wikiprep tests- avg. 220

* biochemistry kaplan
* pharmacology recall

*microcards, LANGE series flash cards (biochem, pharm, micro)
Q bank:
* USMLE world (June-August)
* UW assessment- July 1
*NBME 3- end of July
*NBME 5- 2 weeks from test
*NBME 6- couple of days before
Lectures:
- KAPLAN biochemistry, physiology,
Update: So I took my assessment and scored a 68%. Which is an increase from first assessment in may which was 47%.

Here's mine....
Goal: 99
Date: SEP/OCT/NOV
Plan:
Read all the Kaplan LN while watching selected videos, by subjects. When I finish a subject, do the UW questions and make notes in FA.
Re-read weak subjects.
Do NBME's according to reads. First read = 1, 2nd read = 2, etc.
Where I'm at:
Finished Micro and Immuno and about to start UW questions for both subjects. Usually I have 24 hrs available for study from Monday through Friday. I'm studying about 6 per day.
Books:
2001 Kaplan LN
FA 2007
Multimedia:
Kaplan video lectures (not the new ones).
Questions:
UWorld
Maybe Qbank online.

- I am using 2004 Kaplan LN. I do not think using the most recent set of books is that necessary. Purchasing a newer edition of FA is the one they recommend. I am using FA 2006. I will not buy the newer one.
- Try to use both Kaplan and UW question banks. askdoc recommends using UW before Kaplan bank but I am not sure about that.
- I would not use one of those two big Q Banks until I am done atleast with one read of all subjects. They are expensive and important and I would like to get the most out of them. Still I wont make the mistake of delaying them too much until I do not have enough time to cover both of them.
- Why don’t you use Kaplan Q Book after your first read? Probably in this order: Read subject from LN ---> do questions on that subject from Q Book ---> read the subject from FA --------------> then when you are done with your first read of all subjects you can take NBME 1 and see if you are doing well. You can base your second read according to your weaknesses on NBME.
- Regarding using Kaplan LN for all subjects, I am not doing so and most of my friends did not do so either. Some review books out there are known to cover certain subjects better than Kaplan does. It is purely upto you. If you like, have a look at the review books rating provided at the end of FA.
I am not an expert. This is just how I see it.

the 2006 edition has many errors  they even forgot to inlcude the cholesterol medications.
dude where is GOLJAN you must start liseting to Goljan EVERYDAY
make like at least 30 minutes per day and then go to at least 1 hour per day with time you will memorise and will understand more what he is talikng about.

hi guys.. m a graduate of 2007 dec.. heres my plan..
planned date-- end of sept
goal-- 95+ (99 wil b a drm cm true)
now-- finished withmy 2nd read thru kaplan n videos.. plan to do it 3 times..
books-- all kaplan notes..
goljan RR for pathology
q banks-- only kaplan till yet..

i've a Q 4 U GUYS ,i didnt study Anatomy yet but i found that most of u studying it from different sources especially histology & gross Anatomy so wat do u think of kaplan for anatomy & if i should changed
