Even if you don't take it, you can still apply. But if you could take it or even get the result, with ECFMG certification by the time you apply, you will increase your own chance for more interviews. Early bird catches the worm. GL.

Nothing is really a "requirement"...meaning you can apply w/o it. BUT... and here is the but, having as many things as possible when you apply increases your chances of getting IV's. Apply w/o it and try to get it done ASAP, remember that it takes up to 3 months to get the results, this is something everyone should know. This is the main reason that dates fill out like crazy, because everyone wants to take it before applying and to be safe you should book your cs in january or february at latest so that you can pick you favorite date, and a lot of people leave it and wait until all dates are full, so schedule NOW and apply ASAP w/o it... and for future applicants don't wait until april or may... get a date as late as february otherwise you will not have your results in time, which would not be disastrous but it is better to have them ready. Best of lucks and don't ever wait.

i will be getting the c.s result by january as i plan to take it in dec .cant do it before that due to some prior commitments.i will apply with step-1 and 2 scores for 2009 match.i dont need visa,do you still think that ecfmg certificate is a must to have?

My was for what njcjzy said, not for the question. CS is not a requirement, but it helps to have the result before applying.
