30 yo woman ask about DNA testing of APKD gene in asymptomatic carrier. She has FHx of APKD. She has no symtoms, BP normal, kidney US 2 months ago normal.
before making the test, it's important to explain to her that positive test result would mean:
a. she is certainto develop renal failure
b. she maybe eligible for disability
c. have difficulty getting life insurance in the future
d.avoid bcm pregnant
e.monitor for development of liver disease
i thought e?...but if she is just a carrier, then she won't have the disease, right?

Cysts also develop on the liver, and in a gene carrier, first symptoms might come out there...
