NBME- methylphenidate

10 yo boy, his teacher and school recommended methylphenidate bcs his disruptive behavior in the class. He has no PHx of behavior problems, mother ask for info. which is appropriate advice?

a. children with this probelm may not have very high IQ
B. children with this probelm usually grow out of it by puberty
c. i don't think he has ADD bcs he has not had problem in the past
d. let's get more info from the school
e. methylphenidate will probably improve his grades


i m thinking about d?...anyone plz, thanks!

if no previous disruptive behavior.... cant be ADHD

disruptive, lack attention to doing tasks, etc, etc , behavior needs to be in more than 1 setting = school and home.

also as i remember ADHD is dx as ADHD before age of 7 or 8

d i think... the doc will have to verify the diagnosis if there is one before moving further. getting the history from the school would be the first step
