Hey guys! as said, i finished my Step 3 yesterday and since i got so much out of reading other people's experience i felt like i should post my own. I studied on and off for two months from UW and step 2 materials(More than enough for the test i believe) and UW and USMLE CD for the CCS ( also more than enough) Test was hard but definately doable, i had a reaaally hard time with time management (questions are really long and felt time was not enough) but i did not leave questions unanswered. UW is great for preparation, the actual test is a tad easier than UW but be sure to know your stuff well because as i said is not an easy test! The best advice i can give future test takers is to take it as close to step 2 as possible, do not waste your time with an endless amount of books ( I think step 2 stuff is enough, some ppl in the forum like Crush) and be very familiar with the CCS software, do the cases of the CD as many times as you need to feel good with it and read the CCS from UW (they are very good) Now... The wating game...

hey, Lainie, congratulations first on finishing! as for the CCS cases, I kind of have the same situation...8 of my cases finished within 5-10 min, patients got better. one dragged beyond 10 min but patient did not improve, did not get worse either. It's hard to predict wether you did everything right. their scoring system on CCS is complicated. But I have heard that finishing early (and patients got better) is a good sign. My reslut is coming out in about 10 days. Good luck with the score!!!

Thank you all very much! Really appreciate your good thoughts. Medicus_81: It is indeed hard to tell, i know though that even in the cases that ended early i made stupid mistakes so i know that even if they ended early a bunch of points are going to be taken off my score. There was one o the cases though i managed veeeery poorly and could not figure out (that s of course until after the test) that went on the whole 20 minutes. I wish you the best of luck with your score!

I had the same problem with the clinical cases. 1 of the 9 would not finish. It was a child with cynosis. Did a echo and showed VSD with no other abnormalities. I think it would not end because I should have consulted CardioVascular for possible surgical consult. That is all I can think of. There was no PDA or other crazy great vessel abnormalities. 1 case was a guy who had what was described as viral infection few weeks previously than presented with pleuritic chest pain relieved by coming forward. Echo showed "small effusion." I put the person on NSAID's and still stick to my guns that a pericardialcentesis would be inappropriate as his vitals were not compromised and pain was decreased with NSAID's. Others might disagree but i think risk/benefit.
