I don't what your level of knowledge is, so it is hard for me to say what you should do. I think you follow their advice. You don't have to read every book, but pick some good ones and use those. You should also do lots of questions. I sat for the exam once having only read First Aid.....bad mistake! I failed the exam...not by a lot, but still failed. I don't think that you can be over prepared for the exam. So, take some time and prepare well for usmle and pass the first time. Most people take about 4-6 months to study. You should look at the books and schedule of those who passed the exam...like Meg. Here is my schedule and books I am using:

I have been studying for about 5 months (2 months of serious study):

Pathology - BRS, Goljan Stars, Goljan HY, and Goljan audio

Microbiology - Microbiology Made Rediculously Simple

Pharmacology - Lippincott

Physiology - BRS

Immunology - HY

Biochemistry - Lippincott

Behavioral Science - HY

In addition, I have revised Kaplan notes 2 times. I have read First Aid one time...one more before the exam. Also, I am completing USMLEasy (2500 q), NMS (1200q), and A&L (800q). I hope to review qbank again before the exam. It seems like a lot, but no pain no gain. I hope this helps...but, if you still have questions email me.
