A silly question to ask: can you match into a preliminary or transitional year without matching any other programs, like radiology, anesthesia, ophthology? Let's say, you are accepted by a transitional year, but no luck in second year program. Anyone has such a case, please share. Thanks.

Then what should you do? Will the transitional year program still take you even though you have no guarantee for a second year program? What should you do if you don't have a second year program during that transitional year? Thanks in advance for any information.

once you match, you match. the program cannot back out and say: naah, he/she doesn't have a categorical spot afterwards, we'll dump her/him, it's against the NRMP agreement. if you have only a prelim spot then you have to apply again for a PGY2 spot during your internship.

Thanks, medicus_81. I was just reading the other thread that you answered the similar questions a few minutes ago. Thanks for your valuable input. Best wishes with your coming internship!
