can anybody tell me what their first read mean??? while u r giving first read to the course are u supposed to learn everything or just understand the main concept? if anybody learns in the first read how much time it takes for the whole course ??? i m just trying to figure out ,am i the only one who is slow .

hi... wen did u start the first read..? im pretty confused about this too... some ppl read all 7 bks in 2 months... im real slow too.... it really depends how u study i guess... my first read is more of a detailed read i guess... so its takin time...

yeah it took me almost 3-4 months to complete the first read (but i wasnt giving more than 4 hours/day to study) with dvds and i wanst learning just trying to make the concept even then it took me so long.

First Read
Second Read
Third Read
Fourth Read
One can do all 4 reads in one read..... Or split them up in to 4 reads...
Generally people just give a pretty rapid First Read to get the gist of topics and the skeleton.
Then with videos they give a nice second read.
Then do Qbook with Third Read
Then do kap qbank with 4th Read
Then do Usmleworld..................Huh..........finally.............
Some have even termed me a genius cos i am doing Uw just after my first read...So am i really a genius ?
nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...........I wud be happy if i was one..................
The thing is that everyone looks at how the fellow usmle taker is reading...
But one needs to CUSTOMIZE the PREP with PRECISION according to one' s ,
1. Style of Study ; Memory ; Intelligence and other personal attributes
2. Study hours at hand
so i thought i can do UW after second read cos I read my First Read as my Final Read....even though i will read it again once or twice...but i make sure i get the concept pakka before moving onto next one.... That way i can now revise biochem in less than 4 hrs and That is why prolly i scored 84 % on UW in biochem( some may not agree with subject wise method using UW,but again its my own way of doing things .. only cos i gave concepts and high yield points their due and done them welll....
So prolly for me a nice neat comprehensive First Read with a consolidating Second Read and one final rush of Third Read in a weeks time will do...
My First Read took 30 days of effective study ( not counting gaps in between )
so it all depends on how u wanna approach it....
I am now in Second read as detailed as first with UW going on....Learning a lot... with concurrent use of UW.... Planning to take a NBME and UW Assessment after this Read...

Cannot agree more with kalyann 
We all have own best way , style , that work well for us , after browsing , asking frds's around .
Well still some time we still like to find best ways by good advice here to modified to our best way .
So best is try ur way then if not working modified, or change in fe wdays or 1 wk time .
