I would love to have a party in my house to all NYC new psych residents and call it 'The Sweatshop Party'....this is in reference to how , in another forum, AMGs were refering to places with lots of IMGs...  they actually call them "IMG dominated scutwork sweatshops"

Great idea rechaim... we can arrange monthly psych IMG "sweatshop parties" : ) since all of us will have some kinda house in the city soon. I'll start looking for a place as soon as my visa petition kicks in. Btw, rechaim, are you now a suny downstate resident?

Hi guys, I really love this idea. June 15 sounds good because most new residents will be already in the area... Carmen, do you know other new Psych IMGs ? I am trying to contact everyone I know but it's hard to advertise only in the forum. Once we know how many people we're having it will be easier to plan, confirm the date etc....

It is always better to start such meetings with fewer people and then grow in number because it'll be hard to keep the cohesiveness in between people who meet up for the first time, even harder if there are too many newbies.
But once again, our plan is great and lets see how it is gonna shape up. We should arrange these kinda meetings regularly and maybe a facebook group can be settled depending on how many has facebook accounts
Maybe later on, even cultural nights with different national foods and music etc

Agreed...do you think perhaps meeting at a starbucks and going for a movie then would be better? I love cultural nights!

Going to a Starbucks is a good start since we need to meet and get to know eachother in other words talk a lot... Going to movies is quite passive, we wouldnt get to introduce ourselves to eachother while the movie is playing But over the time we can arrange those movie days for instance at my probably "not too spacious" future manhattan apartment we can do that

You guys are awesome, I will be in New Haven 1.5 hours away, I don’t think I will be make it on the 15 th of June, but keep me posted for future events as I would like to meet my fellows IMGs, I am definitely interested in these multi cultural/food/music/movie nights as long as they are on weekends!

It could actually be on the 15th, 22nd or 29th... I learned today that all the H1b VISAS can only come to NY on the 20th because of the 10 day grace period... Starbucks sounds great then! Let me know which date you guys prefer...

I realize that earliest I can make to US will be June 20th due to h1b regulations so I can attend any meeting after this date.. sorry...
