what is the role of selenium in cardiomyopathy? what is the mechanism of its action?

Selenium is an essentialelement of glutathione peroxidase, an enzyme which isinvolved in the removal of hydrogen peroxide producedduring the lipid oxidation process in the cell.1Seleniumdeficiency has been implicated in the etiology of a form ofdilated cardiomyopathy observed in Chinese patients,known as Keshan disease.
