I guess 'unless there's potential to harm self/others' come into play though?

Yes there are exceptions to the rule of keeping confidentiality and that is one of them: if there is a risk of harm to self (patient) or others... Then it is your duty to detain the patient, inform authorities, and also inform the potential victim. you must do ALL three things... simply informing the police is not enough.
